I'm sure that it varies by bank, but when I called to cancel my Visa checkcard, the bank told me that the reversal would be immediate since the amount was less than $25. Most banks have a zero-liability policy on bank cards.

Anyone with an American Express card get a bogus charge from this problem?
I have checked all the charges from the past month, but worry they may still be in the works. I will be getting a new card number tomorrow. |
Originally posted by icruise Unless the other person also had your name, that's not possible (and it's unlikely that you would hit upon a valid CC number and expiration date combination). i've done at least two purchases with two different credit cards (family members) where i had incorrect billing info and the order went through ..maybe just flukes..but regardless..i guess you are correct. |
Darn I got hit too for $10.55 from 3D Net Zone...just cancelled that number. Lucky I saw this thread or I wouldn't of even known.

I have 2 charges for $9.95 from IUI*NATLCNSMRSALLIANCE - 888-581-3737 FL. Any ideas?

You should be able to dispute the charge by contacting the card issuer. Every bank/credit union has different policies, but many will take care of you. I called my bank the day my ezigatroweb charge hit & they initiated a charge back right away. I also closed my account & had them issue a new card. Not too happy with DVD Pacific right about now.

When I checked my account online, I got hit by two pending charges worth about $1,300 from buy.com and crutchfield.com (they were pending charges, not yet posted to my account). I never used this card at these 2 merchants anyway. I called my card company immediately. They closed my account and will issue me a new card.
I had my dvdpacific.com membership closed right after they canceled my order. Somehow they either still kept the personal info in the database or got their system hacked before I closed my account. I suspect that whoever crooks who hacked their system might be selling CC numbers to other crooks. I suggest you check your pending charges in addition to charges already posted to your account. |
I got a 3D Net Zone charge too on 8/13.
Anyway, so I started emailing tons of online sites I have accounts with and requesting for them to cancel my account and remove all personal information from their systems and most do. But, dvdsoon.com and gamefly.com so far have replied saying they won't. What should I do, or can I do anything? I was sorta thinking I should try to freak them out by saying not only did my CC and identity get stolen, but I don't know what else got stolen and therefore if they want to keep my account open I won't be responsible if anything bad happens due to their refusal to cancel it. That's exaggerating it though. |
Rubix, I don't think you need to deal with any retailers directly. When your CC # was stolen and your only responsibility is to notify your card issuer and let them will deal with the retailers (those that had charges or pending charges on you CC). You don't have to cancel your existing accounts with all the retailers. You just have to update your CC with those that have automatic billing to your CC. When you next place an order, just use your new CC. The old card # is not going to fly in the case of a misuse anyway.

I know and cancelled my CC, but from now on I am longer having my personal information stored online on accounts I don't even use... aka dvdpacfic which caused this whole mess. I have over 50 online accounts and basically use amazon and ddd frequently and that's it.
The rest I am cancelling, but some are not cooperating. What can I do? This is something I have been thinking about doing for a long time but kept putting off. Now I paying for it as exactly what I thought would happen eventually did. |
My CC called yesterday curious about a charge from Apple Computers for $1770.84. My response was WHAT charge for $1770.84?!? They closed my card and are UPSing me a new one. Just happened to be the card that I tried to get the Nat'l Geo deal with. Even worse, is that card that most of my DDD preorders are on. Anybody know what DDD will do since I have some low prices locked in on preorders on items that have since gone up in price on their site?? I have a bad feeling that even if I do enter a new CC number, they're probably going to want to cancel those orders made on the old card.
What a mess. |
They will cancel the orders, but if you explain the situation to them, they will place them again at the discounted price. I had four orders left with them from the 20% off preorder code glitch, and they cancelled and redid all of them at the reduced price. Call the customer service number; they were quite helpful.
|
I also cancelled the same card, that had my DDD pre-order glitch items. I called them up and the CSR allowed me to change credit cards on the pre-order.
Hopefully there will not be a problem! |
Yup, called them this afternoon. They changed the CC on my open pre-orders, but she didnt/couldnt change it on the order that most of the other titles had already shipped to me. Since the price was still the same, I just had her cancel that one outstanding title and will reorder it.
Cheers. |
Well I just called DDD to confirm that the CSR changed my credit card # on my pre-order, and she didn't (bah!)
So pOpus, they did the same thing for me - redid the orders with the discount intact. |
