Netflix scratched dvds

I am curious if anyone else is having a problem with Netflix sending horribly scratched dvds that won't play. Out of the last six movies three of them(Equilibrium, Dirty Pretty Things, and Four Rooms) have looked like someone rubbed them with sandpaper. Does this happen very often for anyone else?

i've had a few in the last few months. they had cracks that made it useless.

Not a lot, no... However, I recently got a copy of "Winsor McCay: The Master Edition" and it had (what I'm guessing) was a plastic security tag from the inside of a DVD case stuck to the "playable" side of it. Since I actually wanted to watch the film, I carefully removed it and cleaned it several times until it played correctly.

all of the ones i have had have been pretty badly scratched but they all played fine. one was cracked though and couldnt be played. im disappointed i had to wait until they received it back before they sent me another.

Not to hijack the thread or anything (I don't netflix) but these exact thing occured to me with a new DVD a bought. It had the security strip stuck to the bottom of the disc. I didn't notice, placed it in my player and that was a big mistake.

In over 2 years, I've only had one disc that was unplayable, and Netflix immediately sent out a replacement as soon as I reported it which I had the next day.
There has been the occasional disc that will burp in one particular spot and will either freeze up or jump to another random chapter. A minor inconvience, but nothing worth complaining about. I've had worse luck at the corner rental store.

In 3 years, I've had I believe 2 damaged so that it affected playback--2 skipped for about 30 seconds, I had to skip to the next chapter and it was fine, and one was shattered all to hell [which obviously happened in the mail.]
I've had many that were scratched, of course, but I'll look at it before putting it in, and wipe it off if necessary.
So far my odds have been pretty good, I'm actually surprised the PO does as well as they have been doing with both speed and safety of shipment.

Hmm, not one time in 7 months of Netflix use have I checked the surface of a DVD before playing it. The only problem I've ever had was with a slightly cracked DVD. That's it.

tonyc3742 06-28-04 02:31 PM

Well, after the shattered one [it was shattered, but still together, so if I had put it in the dvd player it might have come to pieces in my machine which would be bad], I just glance at the surface as soon as I get it in the mail; if its bad, I can go ahead and report it as damaged. I'd rather find out then, than when it's stuck in my dvd player.
Very rarely is it scratched badly or at all, so it's not a big deal, just a 'Just in case.'

I've only had one so badly scratched it refused to play. Some of them look terrible but play fine. Lately, I've had two from the same miniseries that were broken (cracked).

I used to be a DJ and having to deal with problems from dancers literally tossing their discs around and the damage it does to players (luckily the clubs never mine) I learned the hard way to ALWAYS I repeat ALWAYS check a cd or DVD before playing it. I have only been with Netflix for a little about 2 months, but I have had zero problems with their discs. A few have been scratched, several were dirty, but they all played fine. The good thing about them though is if a disc is damaged you don't have to wait for them to get the damaged disc back, just report it and send the disc back, the disc will be sent out with the next shipment. So far the only problems I have had with them is recent mail delays and the price increase, but thats for another thread.

I try to remember to look at the disc as soon as it arrives. It's quite aggravating to have it sit on the shelf for a week or two, and THEN you find out that it's unplayable. I've had three or four cracked discs from Netflix over the years.

I've had 2 cracked discs since joining 8 months ago.

scratched disks from netflix

Yes, Ive also seen a signifigant increase in scratched and smudged disks lately. Ive been able to wipe them off and almost all have played fine after that. It really looks like a bunch of kids ( or careless adults) just threw them around and put their sticky fingers on them.

Its the old addage, ' You dont appreciate something or take care of it properly unless its yours' Pretty sad

I have received one cracked DVD. Unplayable of course.

My question is what do people do to get the sleeves so filthy? Some of them look like its been used to wipe someone's asscrack. When I see an especially dirty sleeve I can't help but wonder, "Where has this thing been!?"

A few months ago I received SLC Punk cracked, I sent it back and received a second SLC Punk cracked. I wonder if it was the same one?
