Is anyone familiar with Circuit City's return policy?

I bought my girlfriend a DVD player there last month. It was a semi-cheapo one, but she only has a 13 inch tv so that wasn't really a big deal. She has watched a bunch of DVDs on it so far, but tonight had her first problem with it. One of her DVDs freezes at the layer change and won't play anything on the second layer. It has also been doing some weird stuff like randomly starting up movies with subtitles. Now my receipt says they'll give you a full refund if you're not satisfied within 30 days. Unfortunately 30 days was YESTERDAY (shit like this always happens). I think if I have my choice I just want to pay a little more and get a better one. Is anyone here familiar with their return policy enough to know if they'll let me bring it back and use that credit towards something else in the store even though it has been 32 days?

I believe that the official policy says they won't do this.... but, I had a similar problem with a TV a couple of years ago and they gladly allowed us to swap it for another one that they carried.

It's probably something that depends on the store manager and what mood he happens to be in at the time.

Dead is pretty much "dead" on. You will still be covered under the warranty however, and the store will have to take care of that. They might be more willing to do the swap since that's the case.

I called and talked to the guy in the DVD player department and he was an ass but I got him to transfer me to the service desk and she was really nice and said it wouldn't be a problem if it was just a couple of days past 30. So I took it back today and payed a little more and got a better one with absolutely no problem at all. A big thumbs up to the South Portland ME Circuit City.

Most of the time, they won't care if its a day or two past the 30 day period. Just call and talk to their customer service department first.

Yep, Circuit City has really good return/exchange policy.

And it's probably too late to use this, but the American Express that i use allows you to return an item up to 90 days after the purchase if the original merchant doesn't allow the return. Yeah, it still costs you money to ship it to AMEX, but at least you're getting most of your money back.
