WHERE Do YOU Purchase your DVDs?

Okay, I realize that this is an age-old debate, but I have heard so much back and forth, that I would be interested to know what the company line is between all of us.

Personally, my breakdown is:

40% of them at DDD
20% Wal-Mart
20% BB B&M
10% BB.Com
7% DVD Planet B&M
3% eBay

In the last 6 months, it has been primarily DDD, but overall, it is the above.

I am going to start researching CH through this forum, as it looks pretty interesting.

Back in the day, I was a member of CH for VHS

For new releases I go to Best Buy.

Catalog titles are from Deep Discount (as long as I'm not in a mad hurry to get them).

Criterions are from DVD Planet (thanks to the 35% discount and free shipping over $25).

I also use Columbia House, though not to the extent of some of the folks on this forum.

mookiemeister 01-17-04 06:07 PM

A rough approximation of where I get my DVDs:

50% Columbia House
10% DDD
10% Amazon
10% ebay, half.com
10% DVDEmpire
5% B&M
5% DVDTalk exchange forum

Zwerchfell 01-17-04 07:55 PM

20% Costco
5% Circuit City
5% Amazon

It depends, If a DVD is a new release, I am most likely to pick it up from Target or Best Buy.

But if a disc has been out for a while and I want the lowest price, I go to Costco. Since they don't have the greatest selection, I will check Fry's and CC next.

(BB probably has the highest non-sale prices!)

But this is now it usually breaks down:

30% Fry's
20% Circuit City
20% Best Buy
10% Costco
10% Target
10% Other (mostly online trades)

reverie 01-17-04 10:24 PM

Probably close to:

2% DVDEmpire
23% Media Play
25% Circuit City or Target
50% Best Buy

asianxcore 01-18-04 09:56 PM

50% Circuit City/Best Buy
20% The Wherehouse (used section)
20% Costco/Target
10% Online

sataniko 01-19-04 05:06 PM

My purchasing has changed dramatically over the years. From the early days I used to be fairly exclusively between Ken Cranes and DVD Express and probably 50% off my current collection was purchased from there. Then I switched to DVD Empire for many years and I would estimate 40% of collection is from them and still purchase occassionally from there until finding DVD Pacific recently and now use them for probably 95% of current purchases but that would equate to maybe 5% of collection to date.

All of my anime DVDs (60%+ of my collection) are purchased from RightStuf.COM. The rest are purchased from either Amazon.COM or DeepDiscountDVD.COM. Which is based on price since sometimes Amazon.COM is cheaper after ShareTheLove is taken into account.

dcprules 01-26-04 03:27 AM

I'd say 40% CH, 15% Target, 15% Circuit City, 15% Best Buy (online only, no Best Buy for 60 miles), 15% Wally World.

Although BB B&M is only about 3 miles from me, I still shop predominantly from BB.com. The service is better, shipping is free, and shipping is very quick (at least compared to DDD).

B/C of the FS, it is exactly like buying in the store, regarding price, and that is hard to beat.
