Returning Merchandise to Amazon

Hi guys, need some clarification on how Amazon's return works. I bought three things from Amazon and got the free shipping. Then I realized that one of the things I bought (a $6.99 CD) I already had -- opps, I'm a knucklehead!

If I return this this unopened item, my other two items still add up to over $25 ... but it looks like Amazon would, in any case, still deduct $2.99 + $.99 from my refund. Plus I'd have to pay $1.50 just to return the item my mail. Is this how it works?

Why not just keep it and give it to someone as a Christmas present. That way you could avoid the cost and hassle of a return.
