UPS is a joke-Part 2

Earlier this year they delivered a package to my dad's next door neighbor(intended delivery was to my dad) and now today I received a call at work from UPS telling me that they delivered an empty package to DVD Planet.I guess that means that they have people that steal that work at UPS.Funny thing is that the package was returned to DVD Planet because of a double shipment so the contents are owned by DVD Planet.

They're a joke because they're rates are so HIGH! I can ship anything under 5 lbs through PRIORITY MAIL (2-3 day delivery time) for less than UPS Ground (4-9 day delivery). UPS' base rate to deliver to a residence is around $7.50. $7.50 to ship one pound!

For anything over 5 lbs, you can generally send through Fed Ex Ground for approximatly 65% of what UPS charges. And they also charge entirely too much for the volume. In example, if you ship a 20 x 20 x 20 box, that only weighs 10 lbs, UPS charges you for 30 lbs right off the back. That's ridiculous. Fed Ex would only charge a small 'oversize fee' (around $2, normally).

I just don't understand how UPS gets any business at all. Pathetic, really. If you ever need *real* shipping solutions, just use Fed Ex!

They cost so much so they can cover there own ass when they fail to deliver packages.Delivering packages is a no-brainer but its brain surgery for UPS.They probably have too much overhead management is another reason for high costs. What does management do there anyways after all --all they do is deliver packages(unsuccessfully sometimes)?

I have really noticed their decline in speed and service in the past few years. When I have things ship via UPS, they frequently take the longest in the mail.. even longer than media mail! I usually try to avoid them and opt for priority mail instead.

Also, they delivered a package on friday night and more than a 1/3 of the package was all bashed in. Fortunately, Amazon nicely secured the dvds with bubble support, but it still made me worry when I opened up the box. I cringe at the thought of having them deliver my future order of the Disney tins... especially with a beat up box.

I work in receiving where I work and you wouldn't believe the condition of some of the packages sent thru UPS.

UPS has its share of problems. A friend of mine shipped a $1k monitor using UPS once. The monitor arrived damaged and UPS refuses to pay for the damage even though my friend has purchased insurance from them.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I bought a DVD receiver from online store. They shipped the receiver using UPS. When the box arrived, this is what happened:

Guess what? The DVD receiver turned out to have some problem and I ended up having to send it to a local service center to get the receiver repaired less than 2 weeks after I bought the unit.

UPS sent me a fax at work saying that they refuse to pay for the DVD that they stole that I had sent to DVDPlanet.

That's called taking them to court if it was apparent that the damage was caused by UPS.

I know that's what small claim court is for. But the amount of time one has to invest just to go to court to get a few bucks back is just so much. Is it really worth it to waste all that time to get some money back?
