Best Buy asking for name/phone/email

Ok, I just called up my BB in Newport News, VA to find out if they got in the new Gamecube demo disc.
Normally the machine will tell you which button to press for someone in the video game dept, but this time it just said 'press 4 for all other questions'.

Here's the conversation that ensued:
woman: hello?
me: yes, can i talk with someone in the games department?
woman: is this about a video game?
me: yes
woman: ok, i can help you there. can i please have your name, phone number, and email address to better assist you?
me: no
woman: sir, we like to get peoples information so that we can send promotional deals and other things
me: no, i'm not interested in that...I just want to know if you all got in the new gamecube demo disc.
woman: demo disc? no is that some sort of accessory?
me: nevermind
*click*

Is this something new at all stores or what? if i had been transfered to the games dept i'm sure someone there would've at least known what a demo disc was.

Never heard of that one. I've had them ask for my ZIP at checkout and maybe even my ph. # but I never give the real one of either--ever.

Good luck obtaining purchase information if you ever lose your receipt.

You might as well give them you ZIP code.

I believe they use that to determine which newspapers to include ads in.
