Netflix Not For Sale DVD

I just rented "Two Weeks Notice". The DVD stated "Not for Resale. Netflix Rental". I've been a member since 1999. This is the first DVD I've seen like this. I have no idea what the minimum number is for a DVD movie pressing but it must be in the thousands. This must mean that Netflix is in the big time and is here to stay?

Maybe I'm missing something here ..... but what does the fact that there is a "not for resale" sticker on a DVD have to do with the minimum number for a DVD pressing - or with the fact that Netflix, like any other business in the world, would like to stay in business?

From the way it reads, it wasn't a sticker. The disclaimer was actually part of the disc art.

I got this too. It was not a sticker, it was actually part of the (very plain) artwork on the disc. I also got the same thing on a recent rental of "Army of Darkness".
I'm guessing there is probably some revenue sharing stuff going on, along with a great way to reduce the number of "lost" discs.

I also rented a DVD from NetFlix and noticed "NETFLIX" printed on the disc (... and it wasn't added later as it was a perfect match to the ink used for the movie title info).

To tell you the truth, I bet that Netflix probably receives a healthy discount when they place an order with the distributer. If you have enough clout to get your company name printed on your DVD purchases then you probably oder an amount large enough to call for a special discount too!

I saw the same thing several weeks back on the Another Friday disc....

Netflix does profit sharing with the studios, so all their dvd's are pressed for them specifically. They probably print the name on them to keep them floating around in the resale market.

They must also save a lot of money by not needing the cover art and dvd cases. Just have the studio send them spools of pressed dvds.
