Is "Deep DVD Discount" (online retailer) Reliable?

I'm just curious. I always heard about this place but never checked it out as I do my shopping in stores. I went to the site and was blown away by the prices. Some prices are MUCH cheaper than elsewhere, and there's free shipping. But it seems almost too good to be true. Is it?

Thanks in advance.

Second one tonight, that's good.

Yes Packie, DDD rocks. Do a search.

Yes they are reliable. However if you want a DVD fast they may not be the best choice since they ship by media mail unless you upgrade to priority mail at an extra cost. Also they don't carry as many titles as some other online stores, and occasionally you may wait longer if a DVD is out of stock. Otherwise if you don't mind waiting you should get what you order.

Yes, they are reliable. Their free shipping method is media mail, so it may take a while to get to you (I get DVDs quickly, but I am in the same state (Illinois), so th package doesn't have to go far).

They are very reliable. You may the only member that's been around for a year that doesn't already know this.

I use then almost exclusively. Media mail can be hit or miss so if you want it fast, then this might not be for you.

I use them all the time. They are very reliable and even if their shipping is somewhat slow, their prices more than make up for that.

They have decent customer service too.. not quite Amazon good, but good. I've had some problems with a certain Rambo box set, but they replaced it and paid for shipping both ways.... just takes awhile to get the mailing label.

I usually only order from them when it's a steal of a deal..

DDD ships my DVDs early on preorders so I always get them right around the release date. Amazon always seems to ship them a few days after the release date and I usually get the DVDs a week or two after they are released. I think DDD is a much better place to preorder from, but I do use Amazon if I can get a great deal with Share the Love and Coupons and I don't mind waiting for the DVDs.

My recent orders from DDD, Metropolis and Life Stinks shipped a few days ago so I should get them real close to the 18th.

Very Unreliable Retailer. Items did not arrive 2 months after reshipping date. Asked for a reship and was given a verbal agreement. Wanted to charge me extra for a ship. This was what i received 2 weeks later from them...

Due to deliverability problems to your address we will no longer be able to

ship to you via the same carrier. All future orders must be shipped via

traceable form and insured at your cost. Insured shipping would currently

cost $20 per any size order. We would love to continue to do business with

you but only under those circumstances. Please let us know if

you would like us to send your order.

One of the biggest pluses someone just mentioned in passing--is Deep Discount's customer service phone support.

Yes--they actually have live people who answer the phone and take care of problems with your order. Just yesterday I inadvertently ordered 2 copies of an item when I only needed one. They responded within in a day and made the adjustment.

Their phone number is: (800) 264-5076.

I've only ordered from them once, but I plan to do so again. I was very pleased, especially given the prices and the $3.95 flat-rate shipping fee.
The only caveat is that the breadth of their inventory could be better. Very rare films (i.e. low-sellers) are usually not to be found there.

I tried to order the limited edition Repo Man after it was mentioned here in the forums, and they silently cancelled my order because it was OOP and OOS and it was the only thing I ordered. Other than that, the prices are some of the best, and DDD price matches when they're not.

How long does it take DDD to credit you for returning a defective DVD?

I sent off a defective Rambo Trilogy set back on 24 Feb and I called them Saturday and they still have not processed the return. I sent the set priority mail and had confirmation that they received it.

I had a copy of Armageddon Criterion that was scratched horribly. I sent it back on the 2/27 and they just received it yesterday. They said the new order was sent to the wharehouse & I should receive it within 4 days.

Out of wondering, how are they for customs to Canada?

Never had a problem. I've completed at least 50 orders with them. Prices can't be beat.

They WERE a good store to deal with. Make sure you read the following thread BEFORE you place any further orders with them. Some folks are getting burned by their business practices.
