So, what does "SHIPPED" mean?

Well, apparently, i bought an item online, and it said it had shipped a week ago, but then i got a call today saying that there will be a delay and that they can't ship it until the end of the month.

Personally, I always assume that when something says "SHIPPED", that means that it has been sent via UPS, USPS, FedEx, or what not to your house.

Am i wrong in my assumption?

For the most part, no. But some companies have no method in place to handle drop-shipped items and must fudge the system to make it work. The result is the listing of an order as prematurely shipped.

The opposite is Buy.com, for example, who in going through great pains to not get your hopes up, will often send you a shipping notice after the items are already in your hands.

I always assumed it meant that the item has left the distibution center and is in the hands of the carrier.

If it's DVD.com it means they'll claim to ship the items, charge your credit card and have no plans to fill the order. They waited a month until after the items "shipped" and after they were about to send out a replacement before they cancelled the order. Needless to say, aviod them at all costs.

I bought a bunch of gift baskets from Amazon plus a few books.

They sent me an email that the items would arrive after Jan. 7.

I had already received the items Dec. 30.

yeah, but did the order status say, "shipped" before it actually shipped?

If you are talking about the Canon S30 from Staples then "Shipped" means "Billed"

I got a similar call...card was billed on January 2, 2003...still no sign of my digital camera..

I didn't check the order status, but that does remind me to check the UPS tracking on something else.

Arg! it happened again! i bought Bourne Identity from CH, and it supposedly shipped around the release date, and then, someone returned it (not me).

charged 1/22
returned (according to CH) 2/4
credit 2/5
charged again 2/6

now, i talked to the CSR (using the WH method) and they said that the order never physically left the warehouse, but they had to issue a return so they can resend it since they were OOS. does that make any sense to anyone?
