half.com

what's the deal with this place, it seems to me that it is just like ebay but they have set prices? Any reason I shouldn't order from here?

Basically, it is like eBay with set prices. Try to stick with people with higher feedback and realize that since each item has a very short description and no actual picture, it's hard to know what condition used DVDs are in. I've been burned before by items that were supposedly "like new". Now, I'll only buy used if the seller has really high feedback, otherwise it's better to pay a little more for the new/sealed items. Don't forget to check out the coupon codes at the Half.com Coupon Thread II, from the DVD bargains forum.

I've never had any problems with the items I've bought from Half.com, but don't use them if you're looking for specific versions and/or editions of DVDs. There is almost no specific information on the item listings.

And if you buy anime, watch out for bootlegs. They're all over the place on half.com now. If the price is too good to be true, its probably a bootleg.

Watch out for bootlegs on any title. "Official Import", "Region 0", "No Inserts"...all are OFTEN (but not always) euphemisms for 'bootleg.'

I was thinking about listing some stuff at half.com, but have never sold anything there before. I have an ebay feedback of ~ 65, would this be my half.com feedback rating, or would I have a rating of zero?

You would have a rating of 65. The feedback from both sites is used interchangeably.

I've been selling some stuff on eBay for the past few months, but I just started using half.com.

I think I've decided that I like using half.com better, 'cause it's so much easier. With eBay, in order to get the best results, I had to break out the digital camera, take pictures, give a more lengthy description, request payment, wait for payment, etc. With half.com, you just write a couple of sentences about the item and select a price and you're done. You get an e-mail when it's sold, and you confirm it and ship out.

However, Half.com takes a huge percentage (15% for items less than $50) and you have to set your price fairly low so that your listing is on the first page for the given product. You'll probably make a little less money from half, but to me it's not worth all the time I would put into my eBay auctions.

There is also a thread around here from people who have sold items on half and then had cc chargebacks that screwed them out of their item and money. Since I sell pretty low-value stuff, I'm willing to take the risk, but I wouldn't sell anything worth more than $20-30.
