Oh... and by the way... How exactly is this a DVD Bargin?

Regarding Paypal fees for taking credit cards, I think they are quite reasonable. I own & operate a that does over $300,000 in credit card transactions each year. Our rate on Visa & MasterCard is around 2.00%, American Express is 2.85%. This is for large average charges (>$75) and In-Person transactions, too.

Paypal's cost for the convenience, security, and speed of getting paid immediately is well worth it to me.

Good question, falken... the answer is it isn't a dvd bargain and this thread is in the wrong forum.

If you upgrade your account and I pay with a paypal balance, does PP still charge you a transaction fee?? If this is true, then they are really raking it in if someone uses their checking account or PP balance to pay for an auction.

It is for this reason that you should have a 2nd checking account specifically for direct-deposit and nothing else. That way when you receive a direct deposit, sweep into your regular checking account as soon as possible where no one (but the bank, and they can be jerks too, but that's another story) can touch it.
This should be re-emphaized. On-line transactions are for the most part safe, but I would hesitate using debit cards or giving anyone access to your bank account. With credit you can fight it, but if you money is gone out of your account, you may be SOL.

As a new Ebay seller, is it to my disadvantage to say I accept Paypal, but not credit card payments through Paypal? Most of my auctions are in the 5-10 dollar range.

It probably evens out. If you don't accept credit cards, there might be a few bidders that won't bid on your auctions because of that. So the final bid price might be a little bit lower but you won't have to pay the Paypal fees.

Selling on Ebay with NO Paypal fees

I simply state very clearly in my auctions that I accept electronic checks ONLY through Paypal. I have never had a problem with it, except for once when someone didn't read it clearly. I denied their credit card payment, and they re-sent by E-Check. But I don't sell a whole lot on Ebay anymore. If I was a power seller it would be worth upgrading, but for now the free account is best for me. You CAN have 2 Paypal accounts though. One free account and one upgraded account. But you can't link the same credit card to both accounts...

how do you know if you have an upgraded account or not? The only things I gave them was my debit card number and my bank account number, is thtat an upgraded account or no?

Look on the website and see what it says.

I stopped accepting e-checks as I was sick of waiting for them to clear and had 2 bounce. Luckily, one guy paid me but the other guy has been ignoring me.
Only accept payments from a person's current funds and you should be fine.
Remember, paypal has 20,000,000 members [figure 5,000,000 active to be very conservative]. say 1/2 of 1% complain and that's 25,000 people. May seem like alot but in the grand scheme of things, it's not.
For every 1 complaint on paypalsucks.com , there's thousands of happy people.
I've been using paypal for over 2 years and have nothing but good experience overall.

Actually, the best way to access your Paypal money is by using the Paypal Mastercard they will send you - your "credit line" is the amount of funds you have sitting in your Paypal account, you use it like a regular Mastercard - AND you get a 1.5% rebate!

or if you need your money immediately you can use the Mastercard at any ATM machine and you just pay the fee that ATM charges which is about the same as if you were to have them cut you a check, but there's NO waiting time at all
