buy.com screw job.

It's bad enough that the damned LOTR DVD still hasn't showed up here yet, but to add insult to injury, Buy.Com's big [CENSORED] preorder bargain of 40% off is no deal whatso****ingever. 40% off plus free shipping = net of $17.99. Overpaid like a mo-fo. I don't know if the studio dropped the MSRP of this thing or what, but the local Best Buy has it for $15.99 and Sam's Club has a full skid of them for $14.50.

Last time I effing preorder. Wait longer and pay more, what a [CENSORED] deal.

i dont think 17.99 is a bad price at all. suncoast has it for 22.99

also, i thought this thread was gonna be about how you dont have lotr yet or they messed up an order.

I received my pre-ordered LOTR yesterday (8-7-02) from Buy.com, but I agree I'm not happy with the $17.99 price :(

"Where's my two dollars" It's always a risk w/ preordering, esp a big title like this.

Then make sure you don't order Spider-Man. Or Monsters Inc. Or Austin Powers in Goldmember. Let's face it, it's just not worth preordering the MAJOR releases. They will always be somewhere near 50% at B&Ms during release week. Let me just clarify...these are for the BIG releases only.

This is why I try to only preorder movies that aren't that popular to the masses (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Amelie, Traffic CC, etc).

And this is buy.com's fault how?

People have got to start taking responsibility for their own actions. You chose to buy from these folks. They have no obligation to drop the price just because some retail stores chose to use the movie as a loss leader.

Perfectly stated. At one time or another we have all made preorders and then found out a local store or national chain sells a title for a few bucks less. I'd hardly call paying $17.99 for a disc that "might" be as low as $14-15 a "screw-job". You gambled on the price, and lost a few bucks. There are bigger fish to fry in life.

Suncoast should hold a gun to your head and take your whole wallet. They are so expensive. My local store had a sign that said "Pre-Order and get great deals", so I asked the manager how much money I would save if I pre-ordered. He told me that I don't save money, but they make sure I have a copy when it comes out. I still pay full MSRP as well as my local tax which is 6%. Who goes in these stores and buys DVDs?

At the time you bought from buy.com, you thought you were getting a great deal. And in the meantime, buy.com didn't change the price on you. It didn't charge you shipping and handling. And you didn't pay sales tax, right? So, the deal is just as good as ever. If you buy at BB, you have to drive down there or take the bus and that costs something. Then, you have to pay the sales tax on top of that. So your $15.99 BB price is actually a bit more than $15.99

A $17.99 shipped final price is a great price for it.
