CDNow selling Canadian versions

Has anyone else noticed that CDNow is selling Canadian versions of many DVD titles? I just got "A Beautiful Mind", and it has both French and English on the front, back and spine of the cover. I also got "Gosford Park", and it's the Alliance version. Luckily, both these Canadian DVDs have the same special features as the US DVDs. "Gosford Park" has French subtitles instead of Spanish.

The other 3 DVDs I ordered ("Devil's Backbone", "20 Million Miles To Earth" and "Freeze Me") all seem to be the US releases.

But I'm a little worried about ordering from CDNow again. Not all Canadian DVDs are equal to the US versions. I'm also not crazy about getting the French coverart.

That is interesting, considering one of their offices (could be their main office) is near where I used to live in the Philadelphia area. They must be getting some kind of discount. You would think, USA location, USA version.

Damn! If I wanted a Canadian verison, I would rather order from dvdsoon.com or somewhere a lot more cheaper (given the current exchange rate)! Isn't CDNOW a U.S. based company?

Ish. Thanks for the heads-up. I would rather not have the Canadian version unless I order it specifically.

Looks like I'll be cancelling my massive preorder from them and handing it over to DDD

Sounds like it's just Universal titles that are the Canadian editions?

If CDNow is an American company, then selling Canadian dvds is violating a licensing agreement they have with the studios.

Heck, are the Canadian versions people reported receiving all from Universal Studios only?

I wanna preorder BTTF but no picture nor description on site. It only says:

$39.89
List $56.98
Expected Release Date: December 17, 2002
Region 1 encoding (for use in US and Canada only); Standard; Spanish Subtitled; Soundtrack in English; Soundtrack in French
