Amazon not applying STL discounts
It seems that Amazon has been dropping the Share The Love discounts when they ship orders. Its happened to a lot of people over in the STL thread for a little while now, and it just happened to me on BUFFY Season 2. You should check your order status after it ships, and if you got gyped call 1-800-201-7575 to get your money back and tell them to fix this problem they've had for a long time now.

Yep, just happened to me on my last order. They did give me free shipping but my STL discount and coupon were missing. The order specialist and CSR blamed me for the problem sayng it was because of combining orders. They acted like they were doing me a favor by giving me a refund and told me to longer combine orders with coupons and STL . They didn't come out and directly say it but I got the impression they may no longer issue refunds if it happened again. I went through this problem numerous times last year and this was the first time in months that I had it happen.

I didn't combine my order or alter it in any way since I placed it, my entire order consisted of BUFFY Season 2, and they still dropped the STL.

In the past, combining orders was a sure way for something to get messed up. But now, a routine order is experiencing issues because of STL. I had Buffy Season 2 ordered for weeks now and my account page no longer shows the STL discount now that its 'shipping soon'. The same thing happened to me last week on an order that shipped. After I called them and complained, they promised to credit me the missing amount. I'll be interested to see what they tell me this time.

Same problem here. No changes or combining offers & I called yesterday to straighten it out. Talked to a CSR who insisted on trying to help me & then insisted I could not combine STL & promo coupon. Well, I insisted that I could & had done so successfully before so then spoke to OS. She saw the discounts & said they would apply when the item shipped. It was in the shipping soon status yesterday. Just checked & while my "promo certificates" were applied my STL discount was not. I suspected that I'd have to call today because I remember going through this sometime last year too. I haven't decided wether to bring up the small price reduction on Season 2 from $44.99-43.88. Depends on how the first part goes, I guess. :( |

Share the Love Each time you place an order for books, music, DVDs, or videos with us, we'll offer you the chance to e-mail your friends and give them an additional 10% off the items you bought. (You select which items, of course.) If any of those people purchases one of those items within a week, you'll receive a credit to use the next time you shop with us! Your credit will equal the dollar amount of your friend's 10% discount. Let's say you bought a CD for $15 and decided to Share the Love with a friend on that purchase. Your friend would be able to buy the same CD for $13.50. You would receive a credit for $1.50 (the difference) to use any time in the next 30 days. Applying Earned Share the Love Credits to Future Purchases If a friend purchases a discounted item within 7 days of receiving the Share the Love e-mail you sent them, you will earn a credit toward a future purchase. The credit will be applied to your account when your friend's qualifying order is shipped. You can always check your credits by visiting your Share the Love page. You can access this page by clicking the Your Account link at the top of most pages on our site. From there, select the Share the Love link beneath the Shopping Lists & Gift Registries heading in the Account Settings box. Here you will be able to redeem your credit for promotional funds that you can use on your next order. Click the "Apply credit" button that appears below your total credit. Also, have you noticed that the paper receipt that comes with your order no longer shows the amounts charged, only the items. So you have to go to the website and check your order status page to see what you were charged. You know a lot of people don't do that and have no idea their STL discount is gone. Seems like another convienent error in Amazon's favor. On the 4th, which was one week ago, MrN got an email
saying that there is a technical issue and STL is being dropped when orders are shipped, resulting in incorrect charges. They are working to correct the issue It takes more than a week to correct the issue?!? |
Thanks for the heads-up. I checked and my past 3 orders shipped (incl. BUFFY) have had the STL dropped. Grrrrr.
Edit: Actually it's 4 orders. Every single order that has shipped in June has no STL discount any more. And just FYI, I always use coupons with STL and I combine/cancel orders all the time. This has not been a problem in the past -- I had about a half dozen orders ship in May with no problems. |

I talked to someone today about my Buffy Season 2 order and she ( an order specialist, not CS) wasn't even aware there was an issue with STL. I assured her that this was widespread. At this point this is becoming a hassle, and I will holding off on new orders to see how this unfolds. |

In fact, I got into an argument with one of Amazon's so-called "Order Specialists" just last week, who insisted that I couldn't combine promo coupons with STL and refused to credit me the $3.97 STL. After hanging up on him, I called back and got a different OS, who told me this was "a known problem" with their system and credited my account with no hassles. I agree with Maliboo: Seems like an awfully convenient error in Amazon's favor. |
Did they fix the problem? I just placed an order a few days ago and part of it shipped today with all the proper discounts applied. I would imagine older orders may still be at risk for losing discounts.

Well, here's my problem: I go under Friends & Favorites and then on to Share the Love. When I click on a discounted item in the list, the discount doesn't show up and when I add them to my cart, the discount isn't showing up there either. I tried deleting cookies and then tried it on a different computer. Nothing works and the discounts aren't showing up.

Yep - just had an STL of $1.12 dropped on an order.
I guess they think a lot of people won't take the trouble to complain, so they don't fix it. |
This has been happening for a long time. I started a thread a long time ago when this first started happening and it's precisely why I will not use Amazon again. You should check all of your orders.
