Help with DVDs on Ebay
I'm rather new to buying DVDs on Ebay. Please help me understand how to make sure I'm getting good products. For example, I'm looking to pick up "Dances With Wolves" and I'm seeing statements like:
New and sealed region 0 special enhanced 2 disc version Enhanced DTS original shrink wrap Can you guys give me a primer on what to look for to make sure I'm getting "the right stuff" Thanks, |
Be wary of big name titles carrying the Region 0 (no regional restriction) label, as these are most likely bootlegs.

agreed. the best way to prevent getting a bootleg is to make sure it's a region-1 disc (and if it's not listed, ask the seller). of course, some sellers will tell you it's a R1 disc and send you a R0 boot anyway, which is why I don't buy dvds on ebay much at all anymore

Be wary if the DVD is produced on a Major Label and it says R0 - all regions - playable on all DVD Players etc.
Heck if the starting bid is $9.99 for a brand new major release that isn't even out yet... then caveat emptor. |
Also, avoid movies that list Chinese as a subtitle option (and it isn't an Asian movie) as it most likely is not the standard R1 release and may be a bootleg.
For example, when you read through the description of this movie (Tango): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1520232935 You will see that it has Chinese subtitles, and it also says that it is region free (R0). This probably isn’t a bootleg, but it is a Chinese movie. It sold for $9.99. Here is another one which appears to be legitimate (an R1 copy, not a Chinese import or a bootleg): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1519797195 It sold for $21.99 (opening bid), which is a high bid considering Deep Discount DVD has this DVD for $21.49 with free shipping. |
