Where can I find LD's ?

I came across a LD plaver for dirt cheap and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as far as where I could find the Star Wars Trilogy or Indy trilogy on LD (other than E-bay)

Try:

But most will probably be on eBay.

DVDPLANET.com used to sell laser discs.

I don't know if they still do.

Nope, they had a blowout sale about 6 months ago to sell of their remaining (pathetic) inventory. They don't stock them any more.

Basically, you're talking about how to aquire titles that have been OOP for about 5 years on a format that most stores haven't even stocked in over 3 years. eBay is the most likely place, it would seem. (Although it can't hurt to check the Used LD search engine in that first link.)

It has been a while since I have purchased LDs, I have had good luck with Big Emma in the past, they usually have some pretty good prices.

Half.com has laserdisc listings, too. I've bought and sold LD's there.

Be carefull with half.com when buying ld's that available in both CAV and CLV. Seller sometimes will subsistute the CLV version even though you bought the CAV version. This happened to me with Blade Runner CC.

Your mileage may vary, but I will *never* buy another LD on half.com

I've done so twice, and both times the LD was shipped in a bubble mailer, with nothing to protect the disc or prevent bending or other damage.

One of the discs was completely destroyed. The other was fine, except that the jacket was badly mangled. Half does offer ways to get your money back... but I don't think the process is worth the hassle in the first place.

You'd think that sellers on half would have enough common sense to ship a big, fragile item in a box, but apparently not.

I appreciate all the posts (you guys rock) and I will try my luck with half .com. (I'm really only interested in the Star wars movies and the Indiana Jones Trilogy)

Just be sure to always look over seller's feedback. If someone ever bought from them and received a severely damaged disc, they probably left feedback about it.

There are probably more bad LD shippers on half.com than for CD, DVD, etc. by virtue of the fact that half.com doesn't adequately reimburse the cost to ship a LD correctly. $2 doesn't cover it, so a good seller (like myself) has to add to the cost accordingly. That said, I also have shipped many LDs and still have a 5.0 rating. Read all the feedback before you buy.

I haven't had a lot of luck with pawnshops in my area, and I had no luck at the local flea market.

Here's a place to consider.

Thomas Video is in the metropolitan Detroit area. Not only do they carry and rent stuff way beyond the mainstream norm but they have a huge selection of used LDs.
These guys know their stuff and they're reputable. I suggest going to http://www.thomasvideo.com and browsing around a bit. If they don't have what you're looking for, I think they'll take your request.
Good luck.
