Amazon.com aims to be the low cost retailer?

This is an interesting article....

Bezos says that they want to to take any profits they earn and use them to make prices lower, with the intention of one day being the price leader. Seems like a strange decision. They may be able to pull that off with books, but for stuff like DVDs, CDs and electronics that is going to be really difficult.

Mind you I'm happy Amazon is lowering prices, when I do shop online its only through Amazon. But I think the reason Amazon gets most of its business is because the people that shop there don't mind paying a little extra for excellent, timely, shipping and great customer service.

just seems like a really weird decision.

They do have top notch CS, but I'm kinda upset that they didn't ship my order from the 19th yet. It said that the item was in stock, so I just assumed that it would ship in 1-2 days. Also, I haven't received any e-mail from them regarding the delay

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to take all those profits and lower prices. It took them almost 7 years to actually make a profit, and considering they were floating on loans for those 7 years, there's an awful lot of debt to pay back.

Bezos can basically say anything he wants about what they plan on doing with their profit, as it will be a long time coming before they actually pay off venture capitalists, loans, and make good on partnerships and have a profit to deal with.

You better call them if your order hasn't shipped instead of relying on email. Amazon has had problems in not shipping orders when the items were in stock. It happened to me with a couple of orders in December. It took several calls to finally get them shipped. Also they upgraded my shipping to 2nd day air at no charge for the delays.

Well, I just called them, and they said that they don't have the item in the warehouse right now :( That's kind of strange because it said that the item was in stock when I ordered it. Oh well. Guess I'll just call them up in a few days to see if anything has changed. It seems kind of strange that they didn't contact me yet about it. I have to rescind my comment earlier about their top notch CS. I mean, it should show on the website that their is a problem with the order (at least it should say that the item is back ordered).

Bezos is the ultimate spinmeister.-wink- Amazon has lost three billion dollars so far, so they have a way to go.
