can anyone tell me of their experiences with half.com and how this site works as I see several versions of titles I am interested in but am a "Nubee" when it comes to their policies/service etc... any help would be appreciated-
thanks, smurr

I've been using Half for about a year now. I've mostly bought books and CDs, and a handful of DVDs.

I've had mostly good experiences, but I've had a couple of problems and a few annoyances. One seller sent me a wrong item (for which Half gave me a full refund) and in other instances books were occasionally in lesser condition than stated. Also, sellers on Half tend to package the things they send rather poorly. Most of the books I've received have just been dropped into a manilla envelope with no protection, and will occasionally arrived banged up in the mail.

Half.com is a site where people list their used items in perpetuity with a fixed price. Sort of like Ebay in that respect.

And, like Ebay, you'll occasionally run into problems with sellers who over-estimate the condition of their items, are slow to ship, and pack poorly. Pluses are fixed shipping costs and the security Half provides to buyers for mistakes on the sellers part and losses in the mail.

Unless it's a rare book I really need, I will only buy from sellers with high feedback ratings (usually above 4.5) and for things in "Like New" or "Very Good" condition. Be sure to read through the feedback before you buy from someone.

I had some problem with director cut editions of some DVD's: the seller was listing the item as a DC but they sent the normal version. If I want to order a special version or a version with multiple editions I always double-check in advance if it is the correct one. Most of the times, the seller doesn't even know the difference!
