Same on my order
$40 Mcafee with $40 rebate and free shipping.
Heartbreakers DVD $20.00
- $10 off of $50 purchase coupon
-$10 GC from vividence
total including shipping $43.00
shipped yesterday and they charged me $53.00
Called CS and they issued a $10 credit.

Wonder how many they tried to rip off.

Based on the replies above, it appears as if Amazon is giving money back only for those who complain to them about the problem. They should do the right thing and fix all the orders instead of waiting for people to call them about this.

I wonder how many unsuspecting customers are going to get ripped off by Scamazon..

I too was unaware of this problem until I tried to use my webcertificate, which they were overcharging. I thought it was isolated until I got the heads up here (thanks guys!). Anyway, they charged me $10 over for my Godfather set, even though I had used a $10 promotional certificate. Had it not been for you, I wouldn't have caught it. Thanks again.

Well, they just did it to me again. It was a pre-order that I had forgotten about. Anyway, they overcharged me by $18.57 ($10 gift certificate and $8.57 share the love.) I called to have them credit my account which they said they would. Plus, they apologized a lot. Server problems, blah, blah, blah.

I asked them if they were going through all their orders to correct this. The befuddled rep said, "Um, well, for the ones who call."

Talk about buyer beware! Check your orders and your credit card charges VERY carefully.

Same thing happened to me today. A $15.00 coupon disappeared. Got it fixed but they are becoming quite a pain.

Watch 'em like a hawk.

Yikes, I just had an order ship where they removed (a) the coupon; (b) the STL credit; and (c) the free shipping promo. I was charged almost $22 more than I should have been. Yikes!

If it hasn't been made clear yet... make sure to double-check ALL of your Amazon orders as they ship. There are clearly some issues right now with their order system overcharging.

Ditto!
I just saw my CC get billed $25 more than expected because of a missed Amazon promo GC. Of course the CSR said she'd fix the problem, so we'll see.

The last time I had a problem with Amazon was last Christmas and when I called that time, they were so much nicer and willing to help. They would say stuff like "We'll send you a $10 promo for your trouble" or "We'll give you free shipping on your next order" or "We'll give you a hummer while you wait" ...

Well, maybe they didn't say all of that, but the point is that they were far more lenient in the CSR department when Amazon was trading between $40 to $100/share. I should have shorted!

Just got another one. Lost a $10.00 coupon for the Godfather set. Called again and got it fixed. I've got three more orders with coupons pending. I asked if they could fix those now so I wouldn't have to call again. They said they would. We'll see.

To the people who've lost coupons, does your order status page still show the coupon, or were they removed from there as well? I'm wondering cos all my orders still show promo discounts and I'm hoping this crap won't happen to me.

It doesn't seem to matter that the status page shows the correct amount. Mine always did.

But when the order has shipped, the Order Summary Page shows this:

Near the top of the page on the right there is Order Total which shows the correct amount. Then your order is listed and the wrong total is shown followed by Total Paid by [fill in type of credit card]: [Wrong Amount]. Then follows Payment Information which shows the order as it should be, ending with Grand Total for This Order: [Correct Amount]. You get an email saying your credit card has been charged the wrong amount.

If this sounds confusing, it is. But upon calling them I am indeed finding that they have charged me the wrong amount. They promise to credit your card the amount of the coupon you lost (I'll have to make sure they actually do this). They also promise to send you a confirming email which they still have not done two days later.

You might want to call them and ask them to make sure your order is charged correctly when it is shipped.

I received GF set, but they charged the wrong amount - ~$20 more! Here's what Amazon did, 1) remove STL, 2) remove coupon, and 3) add shiping!

No problem with the order total here. Did you guys place your order when amazon had the buy 2 item get free shipping promotion? It seems that was the source of some recent problems.

The orders I placed during the free shipping promotion were billed to me correctly. I got credit for coupons and for the free shipping.

It was orders placed after the free shipping ended that have been messed up.

Question, eau: Regarding your order totals: are you talking about the totals that appear before the items are shipped or after. As I said in an above post, my order totals always showed the correct amount until an order was shipped. Then I got the bizarre situation I described above.

Edited to add:

I just looked at my order summary pages for my orders that were charged wrong. There now appear messages saying that my
credit card has been credited with the correct coupon amounts. Yay.

In my most recent order, one of the two items has shipped. The amount of store credit, GC and credit card charge is correct on this item. The only thing that hasn't been applied but still in the order with the unshipped item is the $10 off $50 coupon. I guess they don't want to apply it until the last item ships so that you can't abuse it by ordering some preorder item in order to get over the minimum and then canceling it after your desired item has shipped. With this logic, my order total is fine.

I just checked the charge on my credit card and it's the correct amount.

Amazon seems to be having problems with their site over the past week. I have had several problems trying to make changes to my orders recently. I had two orders I tried to combine but kept getting system errors when trying to complete the process. I finally had to get an order specialist to do it for me. He did mention they were having problems with their software.

I also had changes to order totals when changing my shipping address. One order had the free shipping disappear when I changed my shipping address. Another order had $10 subtracted when changing my address. It actually increased a promotinal gift certificate from $10 to $20.

Finally I lost a coupon off an order when cancelling an item. I added an item to this order of the same value of the one I wanted to cancel first to prevent it being lost. I had the coupon when I added the new item, but it disappered when I cancelled the other item. I thought at first it was lost due to the coupon being expired but now think it was because of a glitch with their site. Anyone else having weird problems when trying to make modifications to an order?

Unfortunately most problems I have had with charges benefit them. I just found out my Godfather/Phantom Menace is in the shipping soon phase but I am being overcharged for my order. So I think a $10 gain on another order is a small compensation for all the problems they are causing me lately.

Just wanted to jump in here and relate some similar and new problems with Amazon I just noticed today.

I had an order that went out earlier this week...

Problem 1: They overcharged me by not crediting my STL discount, promotional coupon, and free shipping

Problem 2: Not only did they charge the incorrect amount, they charged the amount of the order to my credit card TWICE.

Watch all your orders, print out receipts, and check your credit card immediately upon notice that something ships.

As far as Amazon only correcting this for people who bring it to their attention, that is illegal and is also credit card fraud. When you complete an order, you are authorizing them to charge that amount, and that amount only. Charging more and not correcting it not only violates the sale, but it constitutes credit card fraud (it is essentially no different from a restaurant changing the amount you write on a credit receipt for dinner).

I'm calling Amazon right now to have this fixed. It seems as though they are fixing this problem if you call. If they don't fix it, I will be calling my credit card company and asking them to deal with Amazon.

Cheers.

I got burned for the second order in a row. Used STL, free shipping, a coupon, and a GC. They deducted the GC, charged the rest to my Amex. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was given an order specialist. They said this was a known issue, and sent me a $5 promotional GC. I didn't get a GC the last time I had to call to correct things, but I didn't ask for an order specialist either.

This happened after I asked them to verify last week that my order was in the system correctly.

Just happened to me, too. In an order that shipped earlier today, I was charged $89.94 rather than the correct total (as still shown in my order history) of $76.97 (the difference being a $10 promo and $2.97 free shipping). E-mailed customer service; we'll see what they reply. Thanks for alerting me to this problem -- normally I don't double-check statement amounts very closely. I'm glad I'm now throwing most of my business to DDD.

By the way, this is my first post, SO: If I've screwed it up and posted it in the wrong place or something, please be gentle. We are all newbies at some time. (I would insert a smilie here, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. So please use your imagination.)

Amazon overcharged me by the amount of my STL discount by not applying it. They did manage to deduct the $10 promo coupon, however.

Thanks to the people who have posted to this thread; I would not have thought to double check Amazon if I hadn't heard it was necessary.

I just thought I would update this thread as my problems of Amazon not giving me credit for coupons has continued.

For the third time in less than a month I had to call them to have this corrected. They are well aware that they had a "glitch" (as they put it) in their software for awhile and this has happened on many, many orders. I was told this time by the CSR (who was very nice - they all have been) that they cannot tell from your order page whether this will happen to any particular order until the charge is made to the credit card. Since I have two more orders pending that were made during this (vague) time, she said if it happens again, just call.

The thing to remember is that they will not check orders themselves to make sure they are charged correctly. They will not fix them if we don't call. As soon as you get the email that says your order shipped be sure to check whether you got credit for your coupon.

They have been very good about refunding the coupon amount to my credit card but they will not do this unless you bring it to their attention.

Amazon is still having problems charging the correct price for an order. I just found out that they overcharged my credit card again for another order that is shipping soon. Looks like they failed to apply a STL discount, free shipping, and coupon to the order. At least they did give me credit for a non-promo GC I used to pay for part of it. This makes two out of my last four orders Amazon has failed to charge the correct price.
