I have several DVD's on order with a 9/25 release date and am wondering when I can look for them to be shipped. Can anyone share their experiences regarding CDNOW's pre-order shipment policy?

From my personal experiences, CDNow ships DVD preorders out on Friday before the street date. I usually end up receiving them on the day before they hit the street (Monday). There was only one time when that did not occur because my order got lost.

Does CDNow ship pre-order as they are released or do they hold them all until the last release date?

CDNow will send a maximum of 2 shipments per order. Hence, it is a good idea to bunch your pre-order dates in your order.

If you choose upgraded shipping, they send pre-orders out as they are released.

That's not entirely true. I didn't choose upgraded shipping, and they still processed my order one at a time. That's weird, because when I placed the order, it actually said it wouldn't be shipped out one at a time.

When they do this, consider yourself lucky. Sometimes I've gotten this and sometimes not. They do not seem to be consistent.

I had 2 preorders w/cdnow. Both shipped Fri. before release date. Received Simpsons on the Mon. before release(9/24). Received John Waters Vol.3 on Fri. after release(10/5).
