Blockbuster lost DVD charge?

How much does blockbuster charge for a "lost" DVD

..and do you get the cover when you pay for it?

robertmee 07-13-01 07:46 AM

The lengths that people go to get discount dvds

John-In-VA 07-13-01 01:43 PM

How about full MSRP? :)

The Dude absent member 07-13-01 03:35 PM

Was talking about..

Sid and Nancy: Criterion

MSRP $39.99(?)

Does anyone know if you get the cover after paying off the lost fee?

RMan360 07-13-01 06:41 PM

1)The lost fee is MSRP.

2)No, you don't get the cover after paying.-rolleyes-

3)[Lie]I am the manager at the Richmond, Virginia BlockBuster and I KNOW WHO YOU ARE![/Lie]:D

I do work at Blockbusters, and Rman is right they won't give you the cover. And if you ask it will tip them off that you still have it.

How much they charge you will depend on how much the Manager knows about DVD. I he or she know a lot they will probably charge you the full MSRP plus your late fees. If they have a someone who doen't know much about dvd you might get it for the PVD price, but thats only if your a regular customer who has a lot of rents in your history.

Here's another question: If I honestly do lose the DVD, instead of paying MSRP, can I just bring in a brand new copy (from Best Buy, for example) to replace it? That would certainly be cheaper than paying BB full MSRP.

RMan360 07-14-01 06:37 PM

Movie_Man, I asked my local BB about this too and they said, "No, because of Block Busters distribution policy this is not allowed". I think it could vary from BB to BB, depending on whom you talk to. Maybe David_M can shed some more light?

It really depends on the Manager, if I was working I would do it. If its a older title that you lost ask them if you could just pay the PVD price, most of are DVD's are listed as $9.95 to $16.95 in the computer for PVD.

Heads up for anyone reading this tread, in my computer at work the Alfred Hitchcock Collection Vol 1 and 2 are showing up as $9.99 each new and the Classic Monster Collection (8 vol) is showing up as $24.95. I don't know if they are showing up as that price at all the stores, but it never hurt to ask:D

If you lost something that is not OOP, then go & purchase a replacement @ a discount & return it in the BB case! Why draw attention to it by asking?

If it's OOP, then I feel it's only fair to pay the actual replacement charge.

How exactly do you lose a DVD you rent? I used to work at a video store and every week or two we'd have someone come in who had lost a video. I never understood it. I know whenever I rent a DVD, it stays right beside the player until it's time to be returned. Where are these people taking these rentals that causes them to lose them?

 This would truly baffel me, who would lose just the disc? I could see losing the case, or the disc and the case together, but not just the disc . I guess anything is possible though.
