Looks like a sign of things to come. From 40% off to 30% off and now looks like they are starting to bring pre-orders down to only 25% off MSRP (top titles are still at 30% though).

Pre-order prices were usually safe to stay at 30% off until release day but no longer.

Unfortunately this is the result of less competition. With Reel.com and Express.com gone and Buy.com in trouble I can only see it getting worse. Amazon and all the other dot coms have to start making profits soon or they will be dot gones. As always the customer will be the loser.

Definitely sucks. I know they want to make money...but this just lost them a bunch of DVD sales to me...no compelling reason to buy 25% off preorder titles when you can get that or better at B&Ms. I just had some stuff in my shopping cart and the order went up $10 since I last looked at it.

I'll probably still be buying some of my hard-to-find titles from them and maybe when they have coupons. But it's getting ridiculous when you can go into a store and buy for less, even with tax.

Amazon is just trying not to drown, at some point they at least have to pretend they're trying to make money for wall street. Yes I see the return to the B&M in the future.....

Ah, the good old days of 40% off preorders. Guess they do want to make a profit after all.

And then everybody is complaining about not finding titles like Mon Oncle or Scarlett Empress at the B&M`s!

Didn't Amazon.com just beat analyst predictions for this quarter? After the quarter conference, their stock jumped from trading at less than $10 to $18 at one point I believe. This shows that they were ahead of the game before the price hike. Maybe they feel that Amazon is well known and the poor people who don't read these message boards will still order at those prices because they are lazy or they don't know where else they can go to get a better price?
