I'm glad it's not Bruce Bochy. Don't want him to destroy his legacy.

Come on Padres, if you really want a former Cardinals manager, Tony LaRussa is right there, waiting to be stolen away....

So.... Is Shildt any good? I'm not seeing much enthusiasm for him here. More like a middle of the road kind of guy in terms of the quality of his decision making? Or better than that?
I mean, he can't be bad after taking the Cardinals to the playoffs 3 times in the last 4 years.

Cards set to announce Oliver Marmol as their manager tomorrow morning. He was previously bench coach. Shildt practically endorsed Marmol in his remarks following his dismissal. Should be a relatively seamless transition. Marmol is only 35 years old, but highly regarded. I'm guessing he's more analytically inclined and certainly in tune with the direction of the front office.

Any word on what the "disagreement" with the Front Office was?

I have no idea beyond what all the previous speculation has been.
I will say I'm happy with the choice. The best thing about Shildt's work with the Cards is the way he cleaned up their game (baserunning, defense, etc). Some of that is personnel -- your defense is going to be better with Goldschmidt, Arenado, etc. But the Cards went from making a ton of outs on the bases to the fewest. It was a point of emphasis that made a visible difference. I wouldn't expect that to change with Marmol, a guy who has been in the system and worked alongside Shildt for several years.

Alameda County voted today to support the building of a new ball park for the A’s. Hopefully the city of Oakland won’t screw it up but I have my doubts.

The lock-out begins December 2nd. I'm guessing we don't get a new CBA in time to start the 2022 season on schedule. I imagine it will be like 1995 with a delayed start unless the players cave.

It was mentioned in the regular season thread when Cleveland announced they were changing their name to the Guardians that there was a roller derby team already named that. They're now suing the baseball team.
The suit mentions the baseball team filed a trademark application in Mauritius, a tiny island nation east of Madagascar, "effectively hiding the application unless one knew where to look."

Jesus, it's worse than "nobody did their due diligence", they did their due diligence and then sought to circumvent the results that it uncovered? Why not just buy out the roller derby team?

PETA wants MLB to change the name of bullpen to arm barn due to its insensitivity to cows.

They also want to change "Kill two birds with one stone" to "Feed two birds with one scone" which I find hilarious and would 100% support.

All of these suggestions sound to me like when a TV movie redubs a swear word/phrase. They tend to be so much better than the original.

Well, he certainly has the experience and authority that Tingler didn’t. Interesting that the A’s had picked up his 2022 option but they let him walk without compensation. I guess they’re planning to burn it all down.
