Cincinnati is cutting payroll, so there's no way he ends up back there. It makes sense that he and Schwarber haven't signed yet. If it's decided the NL will have the DH in 2022, those guys become a little more valuable.

Castellanos was a legend after his half-season in Chicago. Not bringing him back was one of the final signals that they were done trying to improve the team and were going to play out the string with what they had.

Thank goodness. They needed his bat and his flexibility in their lineup.
Having Trae Turner at SS gives them a lot of flexibility in finding a big bat to replace Seager. They don't have to get another SS.

Re: 2021 MLB off-season & hot stove thread

I noticed Rosenthal tweeted about Taylor and the Dodgers saying they'd reached an agreement pending a physical. Maybe it's standard procedure for any contract, but a physical seems strange for a guy who just played for LA.

Re: 2021 MLB off-season & hot stove thread

Only a three-year commitment, and potentially two.

Have to like adding an established starting pitcher, and not committing a ton of years to a 30something (Stroman is 30.5).

Re: 2021 MLB off-season & hot stove thread

Red Sox send a useful player in Hunter Renfroe to the Brewers and reunite with Jackie Bradley Jr (and his $9.5M contract and 36 wRC+) so they can add a couple prospects (including a third-rounder from this yearís draft).

Re: 2021 MLB off-season & hot stove thread

They also yanked all the current player news like FA signings and left only stuff like HOF voting, and “greatest trades” and other historical articles, which is just silly. But sure, pretend the players don’t exist, and maybe that’ll force them back to the bargaining table.

With lockout or labor negotiations how about relocation talkKRON4

Oakland A's have their sights on Tropicana Las Vegas as potential ballpark: report

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)– The Oakland Athletics are reportedly interested in the Tropicana Hotel and Casino on the Strip as a possible site for a baseball stadium, according to a new report. According to CNBC, that another site under consideration was the Wynn golf course. Another site possibly in the running is an unnamed property owned Caesars Entertainment.
The Tropicana is one of Las Vegas’s last legacy resorts, opening in 1957 and, despite some renovations, still retains some of that old Vegas charm. Bally’s Corp. entered a purchase agreement with Gaming and Leisure Properties to buy the hotel and lease the land for $308 million earlier this year, but the deal hasn’t closed. That’s leading to speculation that Bally’s would be a partner on the development of the project, with the A’s building the ballpark and owning the land and Bally’s building a casino and resort on the site. And, quite honestly, it’s a pretty good site, and with an A’s ballpark it could cement the area’s status as a sports Mecca, with T-Mobile Arena, Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand Garden Arena within a short walk and Allegiant Stadium a mile-plus walk away. It’s well-served by freeway access, and the 35-acre site abuts McCarren International Airport.

Re: 2021 MLB off-season & hot stove thread

There's no way you could fit a baseball stadium on that lot.

Edit : For comparison you can see here the blue square is the 17,000 seat T-Mobile Arena and one parking structure. The red square is the Tropicana site that would be for a 40,000 seat baseball park.

It's a nice location, at the original location of the "start" of the Strip. But it's not big enough, even without parking. Plus man, it would be a nightmare to get in and out of from that location (T-Mobile is set behind the strip and right on an access road to get to the freeway).

I think they're using it as leverage to get the Oakland city council to give them a better deal.

With the lockout and who knows how long it lasts, it could delay the release of MLB the Show. No union deal, they can’t use the players likeness.

Keep Oakland in Oakland and let Vegas keep our AAA team and wonderful little minor league ballpark. Nobody wants to go to 81 games a year when it's 110 outside.

If they are losing, yes. When they are winning, no.

Here's the difference : Arizona has what fifty years of professional sports? As recently as 2016 the only thing we had in Vegas was UFC and prize fights. There was a demand for the NFL because it's the NFL. But I don't think there's much interest in baseball, let alone a team that doesn't have a national following and usually isn't very good.
