Memphis would have been my last choice for any team relocating.

Nashville would have been better suited for the NBA.

The NBA did have 3 teams in the northwest and now only have one.

NBA needs a new team in the Eastern Conference unless they move Minnesota.

I could see him opting in if he canít find the right deal elsewhere.
I think some scrub team would have signed him, though I'm not sure how much. I mean he's probably best on a team where he's not going to be counted on in the playoffs, or where there's so much spacing that he can plug up the middle some. He's always struck me as a Kenneth Faried type of high energy PF, but not really big enough to man the middle and not a good enough shooter to play outside in the modern NBA. Which I think is fine (I mean he won 6th man of the year) but I'm not sure you want to pay big bucks for that.

Also this article didn't age well:

Stan Van Gundy out as the Pelicans coach after one year. Is that Jason Kidd's music on the Titantron?

Poor Zion is already having to deal with coach roulette.

Blazers re-hire Kevin Calabro as their play by play guy.

Mavs fired their GM

Also, why do white guys always get to "part ways", which POC coaches/GMs get "fired"?

There was an article yesterday about Doncic being upset at the front office, but that was mainly at Haralabos Voulgaris, the sports gambler that Cuban hired, and Cuban loudly denied it. But either way I'm sure this is with an eye on Luka's happiness on the eve of signing that record breaking extension.

edited to add: seems like Voulgaris is out as well. Luka the GM.

Well, maybe ALL white guys mutually agree they did a shitty job and take some concessions when they leave... and ALL POC disagree that they did a shitty job and have to get fired instead.

Re: Official 2021 NBA Off-Season Thread

Jeez, so that's two coaches fired this week after only one year on the job. So much for job security of a multi year coaching contract.

Van Gundy can go back to broadcasting while collecting whatever he's owed from the Pelicans.

It's because the Wolves were terrible and Ball at least helped the Hornets make the Play-In game.

Spoiler:

At least he won as a producer for the HBO TV Movie Temple Grandin

Something I did not know until I just Googled.

Wow. There is major upheaval in Dallas. Is this all Luca behind the scenes?

Carlisle could be, they've had tension. All reports indicate that he liked the GM though, and didn't hear about that move until the rest of us when it got announced.

That being said, we're being told this was completely Carlisle's decision and that he wasn't "asked to part ways" (fired).

Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the NBA. If he wants to be on the bench somewhere else, I am sure he will have a job.

That Mavs job is both fantastic -- who wouldn't want to coach one of the best players in the league -- and fraught with trouble, as it seems like it's a trap.

The problem with the Mavs job is they're locked into the Porzingis contract for 3 more years and it's going to be hard to move. That makes it really hard for them to improve enough to be a contender even with an elite player like Luka on the team.

Cuban is probably one of the more difficult owners to work for I suspect. Carlisle has his pick of jobs and it just depends whether he likes any of the open ones, including some teams still in the playoffs.

Carlisle to the Celtics seems like a smart bet.

There have been rumors that the Celtics want a minority coach, after not conducting an open hiring process for the GM position, but that is just some chatter I have seen. Carlisle is a great coach with Celtics ties, I definitely remember him as a player. So while he wasn't one I was considering because he wasn't available, I would certainly have him jump to the head of the line now. I would also like a woman head coach, to keep up the Cs tradition of "firsts" (as they were the first team to start an all black lineup, and the first team to have a black head coach).

Dallas is one of the biggest metro markets
No property tax
good weather

Yet the franchise has a lot of trouble attracting free agents to play with Dirk in his prime and now the same thing is happening with Doncic. He is the only common equation in Dallas the last 20 years
