Woof.
I checked in on that game in the ninth and said “Heyward grounded back to the pitcher with a runner in scoring position. Classic. But at least the Cubs have the lead.” Then I saw the summary of scoring plays and saw how nutty the inning had been. And most of the damage was on walks and errors. I guess that’s appropriate for two teams scuffling around .500.

The bigger news was that Kris Bryant was removed with what was later called “hamstring fatigue.” I’m sure they’re being careful with him, as he’ll lose a ton of value if other teams think he’s not healthy.

Honestly, they should just sit him until he is traded. And in other observations, I was reading FANGRAPHS and I was suprised that the Mariners have gotten nothing from the 2B and C positions and still have a winning record. I think they brought up some C prospect to try to solve that position problem. But it's interesting that they have a winning record with a questionable offense.

After yanking him, though, they now have to play Bryant enough to show that heís healthy.

Mariners have a winning record despite a -50 run differential, partly because they have a strong bullpen and a great record in extra innings. Their catching was a black hole, but theyíve gotten homers from Luis Torrens after demoting him for a bit, and they just called up Cal Raleigh, who they hope is the long-term answer. Theyíve been rumored to be shopping for 2B talent, but because theyíre still on an upward trajectory, they donít want to trade any prospects. Even if they arenít built to go deep into the playoffs, though, itís worth taking a shot at the WC because itís been so long since they just made the playoffs.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

Thanks Tony LaRussa, who had to ream into Mercedes when he jacked a 3-0 meatball out of the park in a blowout win against the Twins, and ruining the career of another prospect.

But seriously, that was the last time I remember hearing about Mercedes because he slumped badly shortly after and had to be subsequently demoted to Triple-A. The White Sox found out like everybody else from the social media post, so this is not exactly made official yet.

There are rumors of an assault allegation floating around about Mercedes, which may explain his hasty announcement.

It's from that time when Mercedes hit a homerun on a 3-0 pitch off a position player and LaRussa said that wasn't how the game is played. Mercedes' numbers soon tanked at the plate afterwards. Social media absolutely hated the LaRussa hire, thinking he's an out-of-touch coach with today's game. That whole Mercedes incident really rankled them at the time.

Of course these mindless Twitter fans have toned down their criticism of LaRussa since the White Sox have one of the best records in the AL despite massive injuries to core players.

Re: 2021 MLB regular season thread

Yankees blow a lead in the ninth then throw four WPs to lose it in the 10th.

Dodgers pick up Billy McKinney, who was drafted by the Aís, was traded to the Cubs in the Addison Russell deal, was traded to the Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman deal, and has played for four other teams in the last four years.

Well, LaRussa IS really old, has been out of the game for years, and is the complete opposite of most hires these days. Good for him to keep the ship on course, but the team is also still really good. Did Tony turn Carlos Rodon from non-tendered into a Cy candidate? Maybe somewhat? But you know what they say about managers: Too much credit when they win and too much blame when they lose. But I havenít watched the Sox at all this year so Iím just offering my blind opinion like we do on the internet.

I've asked this question before... but I thought the issues with the WTF and Cleveland was the name and logo respectively... have we now moved to representations of any kind being bad?

I am offended by the name Cleveland Guardians

Guardians is very meh but since there's a tie to the city with the Guardians of Traffic it makes sense. Even though it was an old 19th century National League team, I really wanted to see the Cleveland Spiders return.

It's an unknowable answer, but I do wonder if the Indians would have had anywhere near this much pressure to change their team name, which most people did not feel was offensive, if they hadn't been so damn stubborn and obstinate about not changing their unquestionably offensive mascot/logo.
