Johnny Juzang from UCLA declared for the NBA draft, but he's still retaining his college eligibility in case he changes his mind.

He had a really good run in March. But, I suppose he wants to be sure he ends up a high 1st round pick should he leave. If scouts think he's lower 1st round/2nd round, he better stay at UCLA and improve his stock.

A lot of former UCLA stars have bombed or have just average careers in the NBA.

Juzang is one of those great college players that won't amount to anything in the NBA. He should stay in school. Long term, a UCLA degree is worth far more to him. Plus, UCLA co-eds.

Sad news: Former UK ball player Terrence Clarke lost his life as a result of a car accident in Los Angeles earlier this evening. He was a 5-star recruit whose season last year was limited due to injuries. He declared for the draft last month.

Also heartbreaking to consider: It's being reported that his former teammate (Boston) was in a vehicle behind him. Hard to imagine being a witness up close to a fatal accident involving a friend.

Never saw the kid play. I guess he played very little his Freshman year. But, this is tragic and the fact that he died in the hospital with his mother there is so sad.

He signed with LeBron's agency Klutch sports only a few days ago. Most scouts seem to think he would have been a 2nd round pick. So he would have most likely had to play in the G League.

Kansas just landed the top transfer in the country, Remy Martin from ASU, a Pre-season All-American last year. He's still exploring the NBA draft but as a late entry in the transfer portal and a new commit to KU, I assume he anticipates coming to Lawrence for one year. This team could be really good now.

I would bet on him NOT playing. He is unlikely to upgrade his draft stock (2nd rounder) and only puts more mileage on himself and risks injury. He had to transfer because he already committed to the draft, so ASU had to move on with 3 new guards. There was no room for him. Love the dude and the energy he brings. But his size is such a detriment.

Remy Martin is an absolute baller, but I've never been a giant fan of his style. He can absolutely win you any game with his shooting and attitude, and he can make the hardest plays look easy, but that sometimes seems to be a problem for him. Hard to describe, but it's like he's more interested in pulling off the difficult play or shot than in working to get an easier one.

I thought for sure Duke would make a run at Bobby Hurley. Maybe that is why ASU locked him into a new contract fairly recently.

I can't decide which is funnier : That you think that Coach K wouldn't have absolute say in who was going to replace him at Duke, or that any recent contract at any school (below maybe the bluest of the Bluebloods) would keep Duke from hiring whichever head coach they wanted.

I am not sure what is funny about anything I said. Hurley has done good things at ASU, given the limitations of being a Pac12 school and only having minor success in the past. Coach K having say on his successor (of which I imagine to be true, but you are clearly speculating), doesn't mean he can't or won't want Hurley as his replacement.

As for the financials, sure, Duke and its boosters have deep pockets. I never said they didn't. I am unsure how you read anything into what I said that implies otherwise.

I was simply responding to the rumors that his successor was picked and it wasn't Hurley.

Okay I guess I was thinking that you were saying that the new contract is why Hurley wasn't picked.
If a bunch of writers were looking for Coach K's successor, Hurley would certainly be on most short lists. But after Ol Roy retired and his job was given to his top assistant, who was also a UNC alumnus, I am certain that K wanted the same thing for Duke and made this move to ensure that would happen.

Big day for KU Basketball : All three guys who were testing the draft waters (Jalen Wilson, Ochai Agbaji and transfer Remy Martin) have all withdrawn in the past couple of hours and will be returning to Lawrence, KS. Should be near the top of the pre-season rankings now.

Don't know when the NCAA hammer comes down on this team, but I assume it's not during this next season. I suppose everyone must know that they will remain eligible to play this next Tournament if they are bringing everyone back?

I still think it's coming (and I think it's deserved, FWIW). If only out of pride for the NCAA, they can't let it slip away. And many other programs were cited for less egregious violations.

But maybe that SC ruling makes it harder on the NCAA now?

Rematch of the F4 classic - UCLA and Gonzaga to meet in Vegas (T-Mobile) on Nov. 23. Not that I pay much attention to preseason rankings, but they are both expected to rated very highly.
