Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Instead of capitalizing on being a 3rd generation wrestler they should have called Randy Orton "Rudy Roughhouse".

That's definitely a name I wonder how they came up with.

Wouldn't you love to be in the room where they come up with these off the wall names? They have to be drunk. One of the all time worse names was given to someone if booked properly, could have been over the moon and back. His name, Dolph Ziggler.

I mean, he did get over and they buried him anyway, so I don't think the name mattered much in that case.

I could kind of understand them renaming Rick's kid because of Scott's shenanigans and wanting him not to be tied to the Steiner name as he debuts, but then they... tie his entrance/mannerisms to the Steiners and give him the crappiest name ever, so who knows what they're doing? Also having him go over a guy who challenged for the title later in the same program is... some kind of booking.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Not to mention he looks just like his dad so anybody old enough is gonna know who he is anyway. As for Ziggler he's a good worker but was he ever in serious contention for the Title?

Rather unforgettable but Ziggler has two runs with the Title.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

I never understood why Vince let Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton,Ted Dibiase Jr and Charlotte Flair use their father's last name but then when it comes to Rex Steiner or Joe Hennig or Windham Rotunda or Taylor Rotunda, it becomes a big fucking deal and they change their names to Bo Dallas or Michael McGillicutty or Bron Breaker. I'm pretty sure that if Steve Austin came today through the ranks he would be stuck with the Ringmaster or Icy McFrost and the first sign of him complaining, Vince would fire his ass.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Sounded like a cartoon character. Good thing his ex-wife thought of "Stone Cold". Nobody would've taken him seriously with "Chilly McFreeze". But as for why some 2nd/3rd generation wrestlers weren't allowed to use their family name my guess is that Vince probably thought the names wouldn't have been as marketable. Also, perhaps talent have more input than we think.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

I also wonder if the talent themselves don't want to be in a Cody Rhodes situation where they can't use their parent's wrestling name once they are "future endeavored" without a ton of negotiating.

I mean look at Gold Dust. As a kid I didn't even realize that was Dusty's kid for a while.

In this case, Dustin wanted to do that. At the time, he was estranged from Dusty, felt that he couldnít get over due to being the son of a legend and Goldust would give him the opportunity to start from scratch

Plus Goldust is a pure gimmick like The Undertaker or Mankind. Rex Steiner is just a version of who he really is.

He really made it work and set himself apart from his dad. Funnily enough in his first stint with the company he was Dustin Rhodes.

Depending on the person it can work out quite well. As JR says, "The best gimmicks are an extension of the wrestler's real personality". Although even with gimmicks like Undertaker, there is a real part of them in the character (e.g. American Badass).

Tonight's Dynamite is pretty good so far. They had CM Punk on commentary for a bit and have done a really fine job building to next week's big show. Looks like Punk is going to feud with Taz's stable for a bit.

He could really elevate any of those guys, but really Ricky Starks is most deserving (sorry Hobbs). Unfortunately I think he's either still hurt or feuding with Cage still (their back and forth on twitter is brutal).

At least with the way they have that wins/losses contender rankings, they won't blow their wad with Punk/Danielson just yet because short of a number one contender's match they have to win a few more matches, which will give them some time to take it easy and elevate some of the younger guys. As much as I want to see Danielson/Omega, I'm not sure you can take the strap off Omega just yet.

The best thing AEW has going it's way is WWE might be stuck with another 10-15 years of Vince McMahon in his Al Davis/Mr. Burns faze

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

I dont really understand Bron Breaker beating LA Knight like that and then Knight just lets it go. Hes supposed to be a cocky heel. They couldnt have found some local guy for him to squash?
