Oops, sorry, you're right Impact. I watch both so sporadically lately that I honestly get them confused.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Wow the ratings for AEW with NXT moving to Tuesdays showed a massive jump.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCirc..._44_1219m_2nd/

The NXT move was great for both shows (at least for the first week). But the AEW jump is amazing.

As for everyone else, I don't even know what to say other than I hope AEW scoops them up. Peyton Royce was never allowed to shine in the women's division. Everyone knows that she has tons of star potential. Billy Kaye was great in her comedy role and until WM, she was Carmella's sidekick. Mickey James is a veteran and future Hall of Famer and would be an asset in the AEW women's division. Chelsea Green was also another great asset that simply had bad luck with injuries. Samoa Joe is a main eventer and showed that he can be a great color commentator. AEW needs to sign him up now. Tucker was pretty good but suffered from creative stupidity when he was taken away from Heavy Machinery. Kalisto was a great jobber to the stars.

I'm still surprised Erick Rowan hasn't been signed anywhere. He should have been signed by AEW to come in as part of the Dark Order.

When was the last time they went unopposed and what was the number then? There were times when NXT had to move to Tuesday for something else that was airing on USA in the past right?

EDIT: Nevermind, it was 9/9/20, when there was Playoff hockey on USA, and NXT's number that night was 1,016,000, which is very good, but this is over 200,000 more than that.

According to this article:
https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/20...-october-2019/
Dynamite drew 1.219 million viewers
NXT (on Tuesday) drew 805,000 viewers
Dynamite's highest viewership since the debut at 1.41
Dynamite's average in 2020 was 810,755
average in 2019 was 903,333

Seems like on September 9 they ran unopposed on Wednesday due to the NHL Playoffs and drew 1.016 million viewers (this was also right after All Out):
https://www.wrestleview.com/aew-news...tember-9-2020/

The week before they also ran unopposed and had 928,000, so I guess the PPV made a big difference:

Even more shocking news, Mojo Rawley was still employed. Have we even seen him at all since last year's Wrestlemania?

I have to imagine Samoa Joe gets signed by another promotion soon. AEW seems likely, but as others have mentioned their roster is over stuffed at this point.

I hope Joe goes to AEW to replace Excalibur.
Also Pat McAffee is now the analyst on Smackdown. He starts tonight

If he's cleared to wrestle, he could basically go anywhere... AEW (where they could use him even with the packed roster), back to Impact, ROH, NJPW, etc. If not cleared to wrestle any US promotion could use him as a commentator/veteran presence. I assume there's the same 90 day non compete agreement (if he wants his money. I know FTR left the money but I have to imagine Samoa Joe's money is a bit bigger)

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Pat McAfee has been announced as the new color commentator for Smackdown. At least we know that Pat is good on the mic, but we'll see how that translate into doing color commentary, which is different that hosting a radio show or doing promos on NXT.

Funny enough a couple days before his release I had done a Google search to see if he was retired or not. I was just curious as it seems like heís been out of action for quite a while.

The quote from him I read says that he plans to return to the ring, but there wasnít a timetable on when that will happen. So I imagine eventually heíll be cleared. Maybe in the meantime he could continue as an announcer or whatever like heís been doing.

I thought a Samoa Joe/Roman Reigns feud could have been interesting over the summer. Maybe WWE won't clear him.

I donít always understand how the process of medically clearing talent works. Guys like Edge and Daniel Bryan supposedly had career ending injuries that also could threaten their livelihood, but yet get cleared to come back.

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

I heard NXT and developmental cuts are likely on the way soon. Looking at the roster of NXT, there are some names that I never heard of (or don't remember seeing recently) that wouldn't be surprising cuts.

Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke are a couple that I'm always surprised to still see work there, despite hardly anything having been done with them for years. Shafir was with her husband Roddy Strong this week, and the segment could easily be seen as her "farewell". Duke's not even listed as a performer anymore, but in a "digital creative" role. So maybe her job's safe. Aliyah, although she gets airtime, doesn't seem to be someone WWE has plans for. Though she's only 26 so there's time for things to change.

On the men's side, despite his youth and upside Velveteen Dream hasn't been doing much and has lots of baggage. Sadly WWE looks at things like having a popular Twitch account as a much more serious offense than things like sexual harassment, domestic abuse, white supremacy, or being an anti-vaxxer COVID denier. They've been employed for a long time, but I wonder if the clock is running out on Tyler Breeze and Fandango. They got the brief run with the tag titles and then immediately got shoved down the roster. Maybe Breeze's prominent role on Xavier Woods' UpUpDownDown YouTube gaming channel (which has over 2 million subscribers) will save him.

With McAfee being on Smackdown, any chance Adam Cole to be called up?

Re: The 2021 Pro Wrestling Thread.

Just how much TV/air time does AEW have? I really don't see how they can take on any more talent with the mere 2 hours they have on TNT. One benefit I am seeing is that AEW and Impact seem to be taking a territory approach with stars able to crossover as needed.

It makes you wonder what would happen to WWE if Peacock doesn't catch on and goes under? But yeah, with the massive amounts of money WWE gets from TV contracts, they are not hurting for money. To use the term "budget cuts" is laughable at best.

Given the kind of programming WWE has been presenting as of late, not to mention the lousy ratings, I really cannot understand how they continue to get the big $$ they do from NBC/Universal.

If that happens, which I don't expect due to them bringing now the WWE Network crowd, I imagine that Vince will either shop the Network to Netflix or simply re-start it in the US. The Network still functions all around the world, so it's just a matter of updating the app and activating it again.

WWE still one of the biggest attractions worldwide and their ratings in the US are still better than what other networks and cable channels do in comparison. WWE is a very good content creator and provider for their partners, as they showed last year in the pandemic. They are also a Fortune 500 company and are viewed as a sports franchise/league. Ratings have to go very, very low for them to lose the value they have right now.
