I would think more people would be interested in a game between two playoff bound teams rather than a game that features two suck bags teams.

I highly doubt that Fox would feature WAS/PHILA as a double header game (if that was the case) and would have other choices(if it was anything but the last week in the season).

They (NBC) should show WAS/PHILA in those markets plus DAL market and show GB/CHI for the rest of the country.

No other sport would show two teams with losing records as their showcase game to close a current season.
The game will have meaning no matter what happens in the NYG/DAL game. Washington must beat PHI to win the division regardless of the NYG/DAL game. If NYG wins and WAS loses, NYG wins the division.

And as I said before, the GB game is going to get massive distribution on FOX. The only markets that won't get it are probably KC, the Pacific Coast markets and the states of NC and LA (basically everybody east of the Pacific coast except KC, Carolina, and Louisiana should get it). Also keep in mind that GB has owned CHI for decades, so it's not that great of a matchup.

Furthermore, if AZ loses, then CHI would have nothing to play for (they will have clinched) and will sit guys, giving GB an easy win. That isn't fair to NO and SEA in the battle for the 1 seed.

Wouldn’t the Rams/Arizona game have significance regardless of other outcomes? Or are both teams in with a Chicago loss?

Re: 2020 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 16

I believe the WTF/Eagles game is the only "win-and-they're-in" game that is NOT dependent on other games, that's why it's the Sunday night game.

Like Red Dog mentioned, there's other, presumably better games that could be meaningless depending on how other games work out. But no matter what happens in Dallas/NYG, the WTF has to win to make the playoffs.

(I don't know who here coined the "WTF" nickname for the team, but be advised I've appropriated it for use here and in other areas of communication. I will not be paying a royalties fee)

Ironic that the worst division in the league has probably the most interesting ramifications in the final week.

Dallas and NYG will fight for a playoff berth that's dependent on Washington losing in the evening.
Both teams could be killing themselves for nothing. I welcome it !

Winner is a WC.

Only LAR can lose and still get in - if CHI loses.

I've been using it before - appropriate for this shitshow franchise/owner.

PIT is starting Mason Rudolph on Sunday. I wondered whether some teams would not go full tilt for the #2 seed in the new format given its diminished value.

That's gotta piss off a few team.

If you thought the Steelers offence was sad, you haven't seen anything yet.

It's of nearly zero value now. Which 11-5 WC team do you want to play next weekend? Only benefit is hosting a Divisional game the next weekend if you win.

What's the home teams W-L-T record in the NFL so far this season?

Curious to know the answer myself so I added it up - Home Teams are 120-119-1 and Road Teams are 119-120-1. I did notice during the season that point spreads didn't seem to have the +3 home field advantage anymore.

BAL and MIA are the ones that can get in with a CLE loss. Miami has their work cut out for them. If BAL can't beat CIN, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

CLE losing is one of IND WIN+ permutations as well.

(Not counting tie scenarios)

Plus there's no way to know who lands at 5, 6 or 7.

Goff had surgery for his broken thumb and is out week 17. Cooper Kupp also went on the COVID-19 list and they also re-signed Blake Bortles.

Rams are starting a guy who has never thrown a pass in the NFL. They can still clinch a WC berth, but I have no confidence in them right now. Especially after that awful performance against Seattle.

Red Dog,

So what was the on the field issue with Haskins?

I get he played with a roster that was far more talented than almost all he played against and that his performance was akin to the Big12 QBs throwing to wide open receivers, but he was very accurate and threw an incredibly catchable ball. He did not regularly make stupid decisions and never came across as immature. Cocky, sure, but not childish or unprepared. I saw everyone of his throws, many more than once and often from near a coach's vantage point, and while I didn't think he would come set the NFL on fire, I never thought this would be the result. What is is problem(s)?

Is Bortles not going to be through the COVID protocols in time to start this game? I'd figure even coming in fresh he's have enough familiarity with the offense to be a better option than the guy from the Alliance of American Football.

Re: 2020 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 16

I liked it when the MNF analysts said the Patriots have a lot of holes to fill on their roster.

Too bad the Jets did not get Trevor Lawrence or all of the teams in the AFC East would have had a QB except the Patriots.

Maybe the Bills are the best team in the NFL? They are playing like they have no major weaknesses except the lack of a running game though maybe they can survive that since Allen can run too.

The only drawback is they got annihilated in Buffalo when the Chiefs came to town but the Chiefs O line is struggling and they don't have CEH.

Crazy to think that Haskins could be starting in the CFP semis this weekend for Ohio State. Thanks to the eligibility changes for this year he could have come back again next year as well. Instead...

How likely are we going to get Mason Rudolph vs. Myles Garret 2.0 from that game?

I am actually somewhat surprised that Garret's accusation of Mason Rudolph using a racial slur towards him just went nowhere in today's cancel culture climate. Clearly, one of them was a liar.

Can hardly complete anything over 10 yards. Too many turnovers. Locks in on his first read and doesn't go through progressions (he's actually a lot better throwing when he's scrambling). Finally, they have to dumb down and limit the playbook for him.

Haskins and his agent are parting ways. More bad news for the young man.

Week 17 broadcast maps are up:
506sports.com - Home

As I predicted, except for the Pacific coast, KC markets, and CAR/NO markets, everyone else is getting GB/CHI.

Cook(Vikings) out for the game against Detroit due to the death of his father.

I wouldn't mind if the Vikings benched Kirk Cousins for the last game and give Sean Mannion(is that his name???) a chance to throw his first ever TD pass against Detroit and that shouldn't be a major task.

The Chiefs are playing backup QB Chad Hienne against the Chargers on Sunday. I'm guessing they might rest more starters as well.
