His stint wasn't very memorable. 1-5 in 9 career games. He last played 10 years ago.

Johnstone's books, especially the first one was one of the funniest and best baseball books I ever read in my life. The other 2(I think) were pretty good as well.

Whitey Ford (ex Yankee pitching great) has passed away.
I didn't see him pitch that much because I started following MLB in 1965 and that year the Yankees went in the toilet and Ford developed arm problems.

Renteria fired by White Sox. That seems odd considering the run they made.

That is weird ... I was glad he got another chance, he got hosed with the Cubs (though they obviously made the right move) ... back to just flat out not liking the White Sox in any way shape or form ... so back to normal

Looks like this is the reason why
@BNightengale: The Chicago #WhiteSox loved Rick Renteria as a person, but it was his bullpen management down the stretch, and in Game 3 vs. the #Athletics, that prompted his firing as manager.

Which one?
One was a manager for the Red Sox and the other a Hall-of-Fame secondbaseman.
Update:It's the HoF secondbaseman who played for the Astros and Reds among other teams plus he was an ESPN baseball color announcer.

I can't recall another stretch of time when so many Hall of Famers have passed away. Maybe it's happened before but is more memorable now since it involves guys I watched play.

Ken Rosenthal tweeted: "Some White Sox veterans felt Renteria needed to hold players more accountable, but this is the Cubs’ situation all over again. CWS moving on in large part because more proven candidates (Hinch, Cora) are becoming available. Can anyone seriously imagine them hiring someone else?"
The Sox GM has said they want someone with experience in a championship organization.
It appears the White Sox are following the Cubs lead in tossing Renteria aside for a proven guy to take them to the next level.

Sad to hear about Morgan's passing. I always respected him as a broadcaster and a player. Although his time as a player was a little before my time. I may have caught a few games of him as a player very late in his career in the early 80s.
But he and Jon Miller were great on Sunday Night Baseball for so many years.
