George Springer to Toronto - 6 years, $150 million
Toronto was tired of being outbid by everyone. They signed Kirby Yates earlier in the day.

Yes it’s a lot money and years but there’s no other way, he would have come North otherwise. I like Yates signing too. Now, we just need starting pitching...

Congrats to the Jays. The Mariners have to overpay for FAs too (cough Cano).
Jon Lester goes to the Nats for one year. He’s mediocre these days, but it would’ve been nice for sentimental value if he had come back to the Cubs.
In other ex-Cub news, Angels sign Jose Quintana for one year and $8M. He’s probably still a decent fourth or fifth starter.

That means the Jays will be looking to trade some of the surplus outfielders into starting pitching

The names that I seen mentioned in regards to Cubs players have been Bryant and Hendricks. We’ll see if true but I’m hoping that Shapiro and Atkins have a deal in place before signing both Springer and Brantley.

If the 2016 team had developed as expected, both those guys would be lifetime Cubs, but I’m resigned to losing Bryant in a year at latest, so I’m ok dealing him, even at his lowest value. A couple prospects in a system’s top 30 might get it done. Hendricks would be a good bridge to the next contending roster, but he might bring in decent value so I’m ok with that too.

RIP Hammerin' Hank Aaron. Of all the HOFers to go recently, this is the one that makes me the most sad.

I would love to see an all-time HR list for homers hit against Hall of Fame pitchers.
When Mickey Mantle played besides Early Wynn,Jim Bunning and Bob Feller then I can't think of too many HoF pitchers who pitched in the AL.
However, players like Hank Aaron,Willie Mays,Willie McCovey and Roberto Clemente faced many more HoFer's in the NL.
Didn't Babe Ruth hit many HR's which by today's standards would be a ground rule double(batted fair balls that bounced in the stands back in the early days of MLB counted as HRs)?

RIP
Hank Aaron played before my time. But, I always enjoyed his highlights and interviews that I saw.
Sad that he couldn't make it out of the pandemic we're in.
17 days ago, he actually got the vaccine

But, in this video, he was wheel chair bound, so who knows how his health was at the time.

RIP
if people think racism is bad today it was on another level back in his day and he went through a lot of shit that was uncalled.
I cried when I read the SI article about what he went through and it did not break him and he remained classy till the end.

Please go read at Wikipedia-Ground Rule Double.
The last player in MLB credited with a bounced in the stands HR was in 1931(Al Lopez,Brooklyn).
The AL stopped the bounced ball in the stands for an HR in 1929 followed by the NL before the 1932 season.
MLB does not differentiate between HRs that cleared the fence and bounced over the fence(including Babe Ruths 60 HR season).
So know one know's for sure how many of Babe Ruth's HR's prior to 1929 cleared the fence.

I know the rules and history of baseball, the poster ask if Ruth hit many Home Runs that would today be GRDs, the answer to that question is no.
The statistical data just doesn’t support the idea that Ruth was hitting many HRs that today would be Doubles.

I was just mentioning that many of his HRs were bounced over the fence(and know one know's the exact number).
I was just trying to compare Aaron to Ruth's HR totals.

If you get MASN as an RSN for Orioles or Nationals coverage, they made some draconian budget cuts. They cancelled pre and post game and laid off most of their on air staff.

I don't watch many Nationals games but Carpenter has turned into a real homer and the color commentary(ex-MLB catcher) is another real homer.
I thought it said that some of the pre and post game studio stuff was being cut but I think the pre and post game shows will still appear(shows will only be 15 minutes long) .

No, I understood you clearly.
First you asked a question:
The quick answer to the question is no. The statistical data supports that answer.
Then you came back and stated it as a fact:
No one knows but somehow you know it was many. Again the statistical data does not support your opinion. If Ruth was bouncing many of his HRs over the fence prior to the rule change one would expect a dramatic shift in his seasonal totals of HRs and Doubles after the rule change, that just did not happen. One would also expect that Ruth was not the only player benefitting from the "bouncing over the fence" factor so all teams should have seen a dramatic shift in HR and Double totals and that didn't happen league wide after the rule change. He probably got a few over his career, he probably also lost a few because it was once in the rules that if a ball cleared the fence in fair territory but landed foul, it was a foul ball.

Actually, most think Ruth would have hit even more homers if he had played a few decades later. The ballparks were huge in his day outside of a few exceptions, which is why you saw far more doubles and triples hit in the 1920s and 1930s.

Rick Dempsey and Jim Hunter(both Orioles) will go down in history as some of the worst MLB announcers of all-time.

I've worked in the business long enough to know this is about money and the people who run MASN are using the pandemic as an excuse to cut budget and cut jobs. You slash money and staff, the quality of your product suffers.
and it would not shock me if some small market teams decided to just cancel travelling announcers for road games and have them call them remotely. That would save millions of dollars in production and travel costs.
