Play-in series: Pittsburgh Penguins (5) vs. Montreal Canadiens (12), Carolina Hurricanes (6) vs. New York Rangers (11), New York Islanders (7) vs. Florida Panthers (10), Toronto Maple Leafs (8) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (9)

Re: 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Expanded Playoffs - Canadian Double Bubble Edition

I don't think the above tv schedule is 100 percent correct.

Too many overlaping games.

Example: Sunday St. Louis vs Colorado 630pm NBCSN and Columbus vs Toronto 8pm NBCSN.

Sunday's Game # 1 between Columbus vs Toronto is scheduled for the NHL Network..

I am glad what I read about the hubs was wrong and the East went to Toronto.

It will be interesting to see what the Pens can do now that they are close to injury free for what seems like the first time all season.

Wow. Edmonton is getting lit up. After McDavid scored the first goal, they're now down 4-1, still in the first period.

I hate them both, so it's a tossup, but that was a nice OT goal.

Re: 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Expanded Playoffs - Canadian Double Bubble Edition

Wow. Really really tough call for the ref on the game-winner for the Avs against the Blues.

If you missed it, score tied 1-1, Avs on power play in the final moments of regulation. Shot on goal, Binnington saves but the rebound gets out and he's out of position leaving a wide open net with less than 0.5 on the clock. Shot goes in as time expires. The replay camera shows the puck 90-95% across but still on the line with 0:00.1 on the clock, and the next frame sees the puck in the net with 0:00.0 on the clock. The ref had to review the video for a good 3-4 minutes, and I don't think there was conclusive evidence either way. It sure seemed like the puck was going to beat the clock, but there was no conclusive video evidence showing any white ice between the goal line and the puck with time still left on the clock.

Size...
Spoiler:

They're still using 30fps cameras, which means only three frames per 0.1 tick of the clock. I don't have the next frame, but the puck is at the back of the net and the clock is 0.0.

I don't envy the ref - because there wasn't enough proof to confirm or overturn the goal. I don't know if the NHL requires video evidence to prove the goal was good or if the video is used to prove the on-ice call was wrong. Either way, the video didn't help. So no matter what call the ref made, it would be the right one AND the wrong one.

Wish it had gone the other way, but that's okay. The D left Binnington hanging out to dry and deserved to get scored on. Had time ticked down to zero before the goal it wouldn't've been because they were playing good defense. Good game Avs.

Wow, that is close. Of course it's only a seeding game so it's not like Playoff elimination hangs in the balance.

Nice win for the Golden Knights. Down two after two, they score four in the third to beat the Stars. Four points for rookies or new trade acquisitions.

Right down to the wire, but the Pens tie up the series.

It’s weird to hear goal horns for both teams, and not just for the home team.

VGK coach talked about "picking up two points" in the post-game conference. Will they be using points for the Round Robin seeding games? I thought it would just be W-L record.

They showed the round robin standings as points on the Blues-Avs game, so I think they're using points.

Rangers swept by the Hurricanes. Gotta suck to go through all that effort of getting back to playing and only lasting 3 games.

The Habs should be outgunned but they have Price, good team speed and excellent coaching.

Don't worry, if they miss the playoffs they will probably get the #1 overall pick in the 'new' lottery rules.

Don't count out Edmonton who is a game away from elimination against Chicago. Can you even imagine pairing Alexis Lafreniere with Conner McDavid (who is still just 23 years old) for the next 15 years? Good lord.

It’s a shame that the only way the NHL trends on Twitter is because of garbage actions by Tom Wilson.

Re: 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Expanded Playoffs - Canadian Double Bubble Edition

I'll say this about the Tom Wilson. Was it stupid and idiotic? Yes. Was it dangerous? Yes. But I honestly think he didn't hit his opponent (who I'm glad was able to stay in the game) with his full force. Like, I've seen Wilson hit others and I thought some of those were far worse. This one? I was glad he got the penalty. Maybe should've been kicked out of the game (I'm not sure that he was), but I just think the outcome could've been far worse. I do like him as a player, and what he adds, but man he can be stupid at times.

Golden Knights rally from early 2 goal deficit to beat the Blues 6-4. Move to 2-0 in Round Robin place. Will battle the Avs on Saturday for the 1 Seed in the West.

Play Glori...ous Elvis!

Even though I think Wilson is a reckless player (even dirty sometimes), I'm going to defend him on this type of hit against Provorov (he is on my Flyers so most of my fellow fans were going nuts on Twitter yesterday). I played Defense all of my life and I was taught to never turn your back when you go into the corner because you are open to a hit like this. I say this because I got plowed in 8th grade on this same type of situation because my face was facing the boards, and I never forgot about it. I was taught that you always go into the boards on an angle where if you take a hit, your shoulder will hit the boards (not your face because you can break your neck). I saw a change at the turn of the century when a generation of defensemen starting going into the boards face first (and their back facing the ice) and the result is hits like these. These guys are taught this way and that is why you see so many boarding penalties compared to 25 years ago when defensemen never put themselves in a position for a hit like that.

So yes it was boarding and it was a dirty hit in 2020, but I blame youth hockey for teaching these kids to go into the corner this way and exposing themselves like that.
