Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

Starting the thread but who knows. If there is a season, it will be interesting to see how different leagues approach it. I suggested in the free league thread here that more groups might go free because of the uncertainty, the potential hassle of refunding, etc.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

my 30 year league just conducted this years draft order lottery, it's an 8 team, start 2 qb, distance td and high scoring league, 8 teams has allowed me to keep it for this long, but it's been great fun.

Renewed the CBS website and hoping for the best....

I hope there is not as season so I can still be the 2018 and 2019 back to back champion.

I guess Clyde Edwards-Helaire value goes up with Damien Williams out though would not be shocked if he was in a committee if his pass blocking skills are not up to par.

Who will be the lower drafted QB who will surprise everybody and put up big numbers?

is David Johson a gamble worth taking with upside?

On August 5, the commish of my friends league asked how people wanted to handle the season, and the six (of 12) owners who responded publicly voted for no fees this year. Since then, no communication, so I have no idea if we’re free or we’re folding.

I haven't even touched my leagues, though I think (like always) Yahoo auto renewed them. I'm still debating whether to close them down or not for the year, I'll probably poll the members.

I noticed ESPN just auto-renewed my friends and family league from an e mail notice. Like you, we’re really on the fence abut whether we even want to do this or not this season. Even without the COVID stuff this isn’t a good season for me to devote any time at all to fantasy football because of work demands. In the past whenever I’ve thought this I always ended up spending way more time on fantasy than was good for me, so taking a year off might be for the best.

Now it would be easier to win a title under these conditions.

Playing fantasy does not take a lot of time compared to playing video games.

Find somebody you want to add and move some buttons to adjust your starting lineup and recheck on Sat night or Sun morning for injury updates and you are done.

Unless you're just pulling names out of a hat when you find someone you want to add, you're doing a little more than that (not to mention the yelling at the screen for garbage time touchdowns from players you wouldn't have even known or cared about if not for them being on your team).

But it's not just the time, it just feels like it could get super frustrating with everything going on. I don't mind doing something like the all star league where there's no money on the line, but I certainly wouldn't do it for any significant chunk of change this year (not that we break the bank even in regular years).

I got the dreaded 12th pick...ugh. I was second pick last year and really messed up by taking Alvin Kamara instead of Christian McCaffrey. Saquon Barkley was the first pick. Every pick I take has to pay off.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

Here's my first draft of the year:

12 team PPR $50 Entry Fee Pick 11
1. (11) Clyde Edwards-Helaire (KC - RB)
2. (14) Josh Jacobs (LV - RB)
3. (35) Amari Cooper (Dal - WR)
4. (38) Adam Thielen (Min - WR)
5. (59) Keenan Allen (LAC - WR)
6. (62) Russell Wilson (Sea - QB)
7. (83) Jordan Howard (Mia - RB)
8. (86) Darren Waller (LV - TE)
9. (107) Latavius Murray (NO - RB)
10. (110) Julian Edelman (NE - WR)
11. (131) Darius Slayton (NYG - WR)
12. (134) Ryan Tannehill (Ten - QB)
13. (155) Jonnu Smith (Ten - TE)
14. (158) Ka'imi Fairbairn (Hou - K)
15. (179) Denver (Den - DEF)

I'm pretty happy with my RBs. Not very happy with my WRs though.

I think you will do pretty good with that line-up. I would take it. I think Slayton is a steal where you got him. We don't pick kickers thankfully.

The Dalvin Cook situation is the one I am sweating. He's a no-brainer to keep in my dynasty/auction league at $45 (out of $200). I guess he's in camp, but unhappy about it. Will force me to pay a premium for Mattison.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

Is Aaron Rodgers a steal at his current ADP?

I usually don't take him since his ADP was too high for my tastes and he did not have a lot of those big 4 or 5 TD games with over 300 yards passing.

Maybe he is pissed off after they drafted Love?

I have him and Cam Newton in one league and Matt Ryan and Rodgers in another.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

Two more drafts completed

12 Team 0.5 PPR Free League 1st Pick
1. (1) Christian McCaffrey (Car - RB)
2. (24) Austin Ekeler (LAC - RB)
3. (25) Mike Evans (TB - WR)
4. (48) DJ Chark Jr. (Jax - WR)
5. (49) Cooper Kupp (LAR - WR)
6. (72) Deshaun Watson (Hou - QB)
7. (73) Jordan Howard (Mia - RB)
8. (96) Hayden Hurst (Atl - TE)
9. (97) Darius Slayton (NYG - WR)
10. (120) Latavius Murray (NO - RB)
11. (121) John Brown (Buf - WR)
12. (144) Cam Newton (NE - QB)
13. (145) Justin Jackson (LAC - RB)
14. (168) Jack Doyle (Ind - TE)
15. (169) Ka'imi Fairbairn (Hou - K)
16. (192) Tennessee (Ten - DEF)
17. (193) Joey Bosa (LAC - DE)

10 Team Standard Scoring Free League 3rd Pick
1. (3) Ezekiel Elliott (Dal - RB)
2. (18) DeAndre Hopkins (Ari - WR)
3. (23) Chris Carson (Sea - RB)
4. (38) Jonathan Taylor (Ind - RB)
5. (43) DJ Chark Jr. (Jax - WR)
6. (58) Kyler Murray (Ari - QB)
7. (63) Jordan Howard (Mia - RB)
8. (78) A.J. Green (Cin - WR)
9. (83) Tony Pollard (Dal - RB)
10. (98) Deebo Samuel (SF - WR)
11. (103) Hayden Hurst (Atl - TE)
12. (118) Sterling Shepard (NYG - WR)
13. (123) Rob Gronkowski (TB - TE)
14. (138) Ryan Tannehill (Ten - QB)
15. (143) Henry Ruggs III (LV - WR)
16. (158) Dan Bailey (Min - K)
17. (163) Tennessee (Ten - DEF)

I wanted Josh Jacobs with my 2nd pick, but he went right before me. I grabbed Hopkins as a panic pick. I wanted Amari Cooper with my 4th round pick, but he was picked right before me so I took a flyer on Taylor. I took a flyer on Kyler Murray. I wanted Watson and again he was picked right before me.... It's easier to make risky picks in free leagues. I took flyers on A.J. Green in the 8th round and Deebo Samuel in the 10th round. Those picks could end up paying off big if they play like top 20 WRs.

Deebo is practicing and a chance he could be back in week 1 which is good since I thought he would not be back until Oct or Nov.

Didn't you consider Rodgers to be a top 5 QB in the league? If so, drafting him after pick 105 or later would be a bargain for you?

He does not have the rushing upside like Lamar, Dak, and Watson.

I just worry when he is available late in every league know something bad about him and pass.

Well, either you believe in a guy or you don't. Fantasy football is essentially speculating whether a player could outperform its ADP, or put up better stats in the upcoming season than the previous one.

Plus how good you are as a quarterback in the actual NFL sometimes doesn't have much to do with how good you are as a fantasy QB.

I'm in an online league that needs three more owners. $30 entry fee. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

You know things are bad when my home league, the one we started in the 1980's, voted on rule changes due to the pandemic.

- Rosters increasing from 12 to 14
- Adding two IR slots (which can also be used for covid-positive players)
- Replacing individual QBs with Team QBs (huge)
- Authorizing the use of Emergency Starters.... if a player is designated to start but is a late scratch and the owner does not (or cannot) substitute a player in time, the Bench player that was projected to score the most points that week (per ESPN) will be retroactively swapped in. Players on Byes or IR are not in play.... and if the scratch is in a Flex position (WR/RB/TE), all Flex-eligible Bench players are in play for selection.
- If the season does not complete, winning percentage (with points for) will determine the league champion (and for prize money purposes, division champs and top-4 finishers)

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2020 (assuming there is an NFL season)

I made changes to my dynasty auction/salary league - used to restrict it to 20 men (18 max on auction/draft night) with a cap. Kept the cap, but made it unlimited roster size. Allowing for emergency moves before Sunday/Monday games if there is a Covid inactive. Have to go 10 weeks to count for a real season.

My other league - more traditional - went to Team QBs and expanded rosters (2 extra draft picks).
