2020 MLB regular season thread, Coronavirus edition

AKA, the "OK, I Guess We're Really Doing This...?" edition (which seemed too long for a thread title).

Season begins Friday, July 24, 2020 and ends on September 27 after 60 regular-season games, if we make it that far.

Preseason talk can take place here or continue in the offseason thread.

Added a prediction poll with a simple question, given that most everyone would say "Who the eff knows at this point?" if given the chance.

Did the Blue Jays figure out what they're going to do? I saw that Canada denied them playing in Toronto?

The Jays plan to either play in Buffalo or somewhere in Florida. Canada has barred them from playing in that country.

Apparently Buffalo has poor lighting in the outfield and the dugouts are small.

Dunedin, Florida is apparently a more ideal place for them to play.

Crazy that their first "home" game is in 9 days and the athletes have no idea where they are even going to be living next week. Just nuts.

I heard they are looking at possibly sharing another team's stadium like the Pirates or the Indians.

You can now cheer and boo for your teams on your mobile device for the games your watching and look like an idiot to your wife and kids.

Perhaps someone would work up a script to endlessly boo or trash can banging on the Astros during their games?

If the reactions only work through the gamecast app, then the participant will get spoiled when watching the “live” TV delay. That’s the only way you would hear the “reactions”.

unless I’m misunderstanding how it works...

Re: 2020 MLB regular season thread, Coronavirus edition

I think the leagues are doing a good job of mass testing and the small amount of positive players shows that you can get people safely back to work (and eventually school). I don't know why the Government isn't dedicating all of our resources to mass testing for every business/school instead of they are using it for more stimulus and unemployment (but that's another discussion in another forum).

I'm happy to see MLB (and sports back) in whatever form we are watching it now and I won't complain because the country needs this. We need to get back to our normal lives and sports (once again) is showing how to do it. And my Phillies are my sleeper team in this 60 game season because their pitching isn't built for 162 games, but is built for a short season.

They're now working with the Pirates on possibly sharing PNC. I was really hoping to see Buffalo get the chance to have a temporary team.
Buffalo Blue Jays has a nice ring to it. They just don't have the necessary guidelines for their stadium that MLB requires.

The Blue Jays had plenty of time to upgrade their Triple A stadium.

They shouldn't have waited till the last minute and should have had a back up plan in place.

Charley Steinner won't be able to call Dodger games from the stadium due to being a high health risk.

So he will call games from home.

He's the radio voice of the Dodgers.

The Orioles have 4 TV announcers over the age of 70(Tom Davis,Rick Dempsey,JimPalmer and Gary Thorne) and none of them will be on the air unless they might do some remote stuff but listening to Palmer rip the Orioles was one of the highlights of watching their games.

Reports are coming out that the Dodgers and Mookie Betts are negotiating a 10-year, $350M deal. The deal is still being worked on.

I would love to see Mookie walk, but have never thought that that will actually happen.
