Rather strange that all the athletes who immediately and aggressively jumped down Drew Brees' throat when he made an inappropriate comment are all staying out of it this time with DeSean Jackson and Stephen Jackson. I wonder why?

Sometimes when I read this thread on my phone, I have to start on the first page, and it always makes me laugh to read the OP and remember how we thought last off-season was crazy times.

Most have gone silent (not all as some African-American Athletes have called out DeSean Jackson and Stephen Jackson). Lebron gives his opinion on every social issue these days from his Twitter feed, but has gone silent on 2 issues: The DeSean Jackson/Stephen Jackson controversy, and the China/Hong controversy last fall. I had to laugh at Steve Kerr wouldn't goto the White House after he won the NBA Championship for political reasons, yet he said he had no opinion on the China/Hong Kong controversy, "I choose not to be a soundbite."

This is why I don't want to hear athletes political opinions, whether I agree or disagree because they are never consistent.

Re: 2019-2020 NBA Regular Season Thread

Agreed. All it proves are that athletes and coaches are just like most people: prone to certain political leanings, have their own blind spots, chooses self interest over the public good, and not always objective. Professional athletes do tend to have a bigger platform due to their celebrity status, but it does not mean that their personal opinions are more valuable or that their shit don't stink. I would always listen, but for those that talks out of both sides of their mouths then I would have very little respect for those opinions.

Terrence Ross from the Magic showed what it's like in the bubble and what his room is like

This looks like it was taken from his IG story.

I don’t understand. So the NBA is gonna startup in 20 days? They are going right to the playoffs? Doesn’t the season usually end in June so is this season gonna run right into next season?

8 seeding games will be played from each of the 22 teams invited to Orlando. Then they go into playoffs. Yes, the NBA is playing into October. Then they will take about a month or two off, then jump into next season.

Wow that seems extreme. They should have just canceled the rest of this season and started fresh in October.

They had 4 months off. They got plenty of rest.

And yes it's a lot of TV revenue at stake.

Re: 2019-2020 NBA Regular Season Thread

Also by adding the extra teams and 8 seeding games, it hits some mark which will net each owner like $200m+ in TV revenue. Otherwise, they most likely would have just done playoffs.

And it's not just money for the owners. This is already going to drastically affect the salary cap going forward (unless they make some extra provisions or something) so I can only imagine cancelling the whole season would've had even more dire consequences (and it's not like it's even a foregone conclusion that we're going to finish the way they intend to).

JR Smith got in trouble for doing an IG Live session last night. I was up when he was doing it at 2am ET. He was just complaining and complaining.

and then he got a text from someone at the NBA or the Lakers to kill it Apparently they don't want him to expose too much of the bubble on social media.

So did you guys see the blow-up with Adrian Wojnaroski? He sent the Republican Senator from Missouri who criticized the NBA for allowing BLM messages on the back of their jerseys -- just a Woz-F-bomb. Good for him!

I think a US Senator should have bigger things to worry about than what gets put on the back of a player's jersey in a bubble in Orlando during a Pandemic, enormous economic crisis and period of social upheaval. Seems a little tone-deaf. Beyond that, I don't want to get too political in this thread.

That said, I don't think Woz should have sent that email. Didn't really do anything productive. But I still admire his convictions.

You could say the same thing about Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.),co-owner of the Atlanta Dream, who wants the WNBA to have American flags on their jerseys instead of BLM. You’d think she could occupy herself with insider trading or something,

I had no idea she was the part owner of the Atlanta Dream. I mean I knew she and her husband were wealthy, and that all the charges were dropped about insider trading because of course they were, but didn't know she was an owner.

LeBron spoke yesterday. He hasn't talked to the media since March.

The NBA has been conducting press conferences via Zoom in the bubble.

Re: 2019-2020 NBA Regular Season Thread

How likely are the players who elect not to put social justice slogans on uniform going to receive flak, peer pressure, public shaming, or outright personal attacks? LeBron already said that he ain't doing it.
