Bill O'Brien's clock/timeout incompetence costs the Texans again.

Quinn might make it one more week, then get fired before the bye.

Meaningless stat of the Day:

Mathew Stafford (Detroit Lions QB)became the youngest player ever to reach 40,000 yards passing.

Fox mentioned this at least 20 times today during the Vikings/Lions telecast. They failed to mention that he has never won a playoff game.

Charles Davis said in the broadcast that Blank typically doesn’t make changes in season. So he might stick around longer. But unless they turn around their season, he’s gone Black Monday.

Kirk Cousins since everyone and their mother turned on him after the Bears loss:

CMP 68
ATT 90
CMP% 76%
YDS 976
AVG 10.84
TD 10
INT 1
RTG ~139.5

Vikings 3-0.

That's kind of unfair to Stafford, really.

2011 - @ 13-3 Saints as the second wild card
2014 - @ 12-4 Cowboys as the second wild card
2016 - @ 10-5-1 Seahawks as the second wild card

Point is, he's never played at home or been a favorite in the playoffs.

19 point lead for the Saints against this inept Bears offense, might as well be 70

Crazy end to the Chargers- Titans game. Chargers do the most Chargers thing ever and fumble away the ball at the goal line giving the win to TEN

Chargers have lost as many games through Week 7 (five) as they had all of 2018.

Ah Chargers, be it San Diego or Los Angeles, you will always be the Chargers. (Born and raised in SD, huge SD Chargers fan, they are dead to me now).

Not sure if Metcalf was trying to juke the defender for more yardage, but down 10 with four minutes left, you should probably just get out of bounds.

I was curious so looked it up that's now 28 losses by 1 score (8 pts or less) going back to 2015
that's is insane that a single team can have that many close calls go against them in less than 4 ˝ seasons

This is the time every Sunday where we like to remember that the Bears traded UP one spot to draft Mitchell Trubisky, when they could have traded BACK seven spots and taken their choice of Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes.

Re: 2019 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 7

So the Seahawks have a hard time getting anything going offensively (with any consistency), but they don't give their most explosive running back the ball even once during the game.

I get it - Carson is really good, but Penny can do things that Carson can't, and as they needed an offensive spark it wouldn't have hurt to give Penny 10 or 12 carries and a few targets out of the backfield. Penny is far more dangerous in space than Carson is.

What I don't get is why Schottenheimer wouldn't give Penny the ball. The Seahawks lost by two touchdowns. Putting him in certainly couldn't have hurt!

They should just trade him rather than wasting his potential (and trade value) on the sideline.

Re: 2019 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 7

To be fair, multiple teams also passed on both Mahomes and Watson. But, the Bears (management) will forever be ridiculed for not only passing on both but to also traded up for that pick of Trubisky. To add insult to injury, that 3rd round pick that the Bears gave up passed from the Niners to the Saints, who then proceeded to use it to draft Alvin Kamara.

Last week's Houston vs. KC game was an especially bitter pill to swallow as to the what could have beens for Chicago; seeing two of the best QBs in the NFL (not just of that draft class) duking it out. Really hope for their sake that they won't be stupid enough to compound the mistake by extending Trubisky's contract.

Re: 2019 NFL Regular Season Thread -- Week 7

I didn’t remember what the Bears gave up so I googled the trade and found a fan blog article saying that Trubisky “has been much better than most expected him to be,” and “in 2019, it’s fair to expect him to take another major step forward and become a true franchise quarterback.” In looking at the other two quarterbacks that were traded up for, it said the Bears paid the lowest price among them, the Chiefs, and the Texans (never mind that they started at #3), and “got the biggest, best value” and that “while Mahomes and Watson appear to be the better players right now, Mitchell Trubisky is barely scorching the surface.” Gotta love the internet!

49ers won and though the field conditions are bad they are not going to beat the top teams if their offense can't move the ball.

Their defense is going to have a bad game soon and they were getting worked by AP early in the game just like in the Rams game during the first drive.

McCaffrey will eat them up next week if their run defense does not improve.

I have a feeling the Saints are the best team in the NFL.

He probably sucks at pass pro and they wasted a draft pick on him when they could have gotten somebody on defense.

The Bears have to be one of the most boring teams to watch since you know they have no chance with Trubisky.

Well, by not playing him they definitely wasted that pick!

He's gotten a lot better in pass protection. He was brought in for two plays to block for Wilson, so he must be doing better at that since he was brought in specifically for pass protection.

The Seahawks really should trade him. They're not playing him, and they're paying him first round money. It's bad for everyone for Seattle to keep him.

Yeah, I know.

But the Seahawks should still trade Penny before the deadline. At worst, he should be a 2nd back getting 10 carries a game, at best he could be a starter.

We'll see what happens, but right now Schottenheimer isn't even trying to get Penny involved. Penny hits a big TD run against Pittsburgh, and his reward is half as many carries the next week. He can do things that Carson just can't (and vice versa). It doesn't make sense to just sit Penny on the bench and eat the 1st round pick they spent on him.

He's been out with a hamstring injury until this week. He probably wasn't even back to 100% game shape yet.
