Had he just read the article that said the Cy race between him and Cole was too close to call?

Re: 2019 MLB September thread

The Harpo Marx look-a-like pitcher for the Dodgers just got hit in the head with a line drive off the bat of an Arizona D-Back.

Hope he's ok.

Well according to Commish Rob Manfred these are the same balls that were used last year in MLB so no one should worry about getting hit anywhere with a baseball then you wonder why they got all this protective netting down the foul lines in all the MLB stadiums now-a-days.

^ Dustin May. Passed his concussion test thankfully and is apparently okay.

Dodgers come from behind to win that game in the 11th and salvage a single win in the four-game series in Phoenix

Magic number down to

I don't think the race was particularly close, even before today's no-hitter.

Verlander leads the AL in wins, ERA, WHIP, strikeouts, innings and a slew of other categories. He has a real shot at a second pitching triple crown, if Cole doesn't beat him out in total strikeouts. Verlander is on pace for 300 punch-outs if he takes every remaining turn in the rotation.

Verlander is only second in pitching War due to a spurious park adjustment made on the Texas Rangers' pitchers, behind Mike Minor. One-year park factors for the Texas Rangers this year are likely going haywire.

Re: 2019 MLB September thread

Just watched the ninth inning of Mets-Nats. What an insane inning. Happiest guy was Trea Turner after forgetting how many outs there were, leading the Mets to tack on four extra runs that ultimately just made for a better story.

I was an advocate for trading Edwin Diaz figuring his market would never be higher considering his stellar 2018 and cost control, plus the general volatility of closers, but I never expected him to go this far off the rails.

Re: 2019 MLB September thread

Joc Peterson hits two more HRs for the Dodgers, bringing their season total to 250, a single-season record for any NL team, passing the 2000 Houston Astros. (though they're only 3rd in Baseball this year behind the Twins (271) and the Yankees (261). Having a DH really helps out I guess.

And despite an impressive 9-1 hot streak by the Diamondbacks that puts them just 3 out of the WC, the Dodgers still reduce their magic number to 4

Ryu unfortunately has been on a major slide. He had a 1.45 ERA over his first 22 starts but has given up 21 runs in 19 innings the past 4 starts (9.95 ERA) that bumped his season ERA up a full point. Not great, and neither is the timing of his slump.

Re: 2019 MLB September thread

Ryu likely won't be the game one starter now in the playoffs. He's looked much more touchable of late. I could see them actually bumping him down to third in the rotation for the playoffs.

Buehler is the now the MAN. Kershaw will get the HOF nod now but his post season track record is less than desirable.

So I don't about anyone else but I can't wait for September 2020. No more of this 40 players on the active roster baloney. You only get 26. Last night the Red Sox used 6 pitchers of the 21 they have on their roster. Absolute garbage!

Kersh is also melting down. Lost his last three starts after having lost only two the rest of the season

Astros beat the Mariners 21-1 and improve their record against them to 16-1. King Felix gives up 11 runs in two innings, though only seven of them were earned.

In other news, former 2011 second overall pick Danny Hultzen finally made his MLB debut, called up by the Cubs after battling injuries with the Mariners.

Hos contract expires after this year, and my guess is he signs a minor league deal with a spring training invite, or at best a one-year prove-it deal. He probably wouldnít be starting now if not for rotation injuries.

Re: 2019 MLB September thread

I don't think Felix will get much more than an open invite with some bad team in spring training. His velocity isn't MLB-caliber anymore and looks completely done. He's going to fall short of the Hall because his career took a complete nosedive in his early 30s. Reminds me of Lincecum in that regard.

Dombrowski fired... I'd take him back on the Tigers in a heartbeat.
