Re: 2019 MLB August thread

Some trade deadline thoughts:

- I like what the Mets and Reds did. There's no rule that says you need to sell just because you're not contending. Both teams had hopes of being better this year and it didn't work out, so they went out and added pieces that will help them next year but won't be available to them in the offseason. It's a different way of going about things and I'm interested to see how it plays out for both teams. Neither is really out of the wild card picture either.

- I LOVE what the Astros did by adding Greinke. Nothing is guaranteed in baseball but that rotation should be great for them in October.

- I'm not happy that the Yankees stood pat but I understand. Bumgarner, Thor and Wheeler weren't actually on the trade block apparently. Blue Jays didn't seem interested in sending Stroman to a division rival. Greinke didn't want to waive his NTC. All understandable but too bad nonetheless.

- I like the one trade deadline thing but I think they should push it back to August 15. I feel in 2 weeks there will be a few more teams looking to be sellers.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

From what I read from Dbacks side, the Astros were the only team really in on Greinke, and they were not on his no-trade list, so they didn't run it by him before it happened. Yanks balked at Dbacks price, so those conversations died. The Astros one continued, and the Dbacks got exactly who they initially chose.

Any Twins people in here?

we have tickets to the game tonight but it seems you have to find parking outside the stadium area.
Doesnt look like there is any actual stadium parking.

Hows that work?

I think Greinke all but assures the Astros a trip back to the World Series. I just don't see the Yankees and their pitching staff matching up in a seven-game series.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

Did anyone catch the end of White Sox-Philies yesterday? Vince Velazquez threw out a runner at the plate, made a nice diving catch, and almost threw out another guy at the plate. The Phillies had Roman Quinn (an OF) on the mound in the 14th and 15th innings. He only threw in the upper 70s though. I've seen some position players crank it up to the 90s this year.

I was watching that.
They told him to just toss it up there. Pitch to contact and hope for the best and donít get hurt.

As as for the Phanatic. I canít see that going anywhere.
Its just extortion. I think if it goes bad for the Phillies theyíll let it go and create a new costume with the same people running the character.

I guess Seattle likes being on the other end of combined no-no’s.

That was a crazy game. The Phillies under Kapler change relievers all the time, which always leads to them running out of pitchers in extra-innings.

Velazquez looked really good in the field. He made a couple of throws that looked smoother than most regular outfielders.

When is the last time a team
got no hit twice in the same year by two divisional opponents no less?

Great job Blue Jays! Trading Sanchez and Biagini for an outfielder who can’t catch a fly ball.

Astros strike gold with another struggling pitcher (granted, only one start). Guys should be lining up to get in that system.

Angels lost another pitcher to a season ending injury. Pena tore his ACL. Then Canning went on the IL for elbow inflammation. He’s an Angel, so he’ll be a TJ candidate very soon.

The Angels' pitching does seem cursed. I've never seen one team take so many hits.

With football so close, and hockey not long afterwards, I don't want to have to watch baseball. Mets: Do NOT start making a run so that I have to pay attention to you.

Their recent success is almost all a mirage, beating up on teams like the Pirates that have already packed it in for the year.

There was an article saying that the post-All Star break runs by the Mets, Cards, and Cubs all involved beating up on the Pirates.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

Patrick Sandoval had a great debut with 8 k’s and just 2 runs allowed. Too bad the bullshit “opener” strategy failed again with Taylor Cole. Sandoval came from the Astros system, too. Maybe they really do have the pitching gurus over there.

I'm really surprised more fringe big leaguers don't get popped. They have the most to gain from using PEDS, because it means the difference between an MLB job and being out of baseball.
