Watch out Yankees haters, with the Big Maple starting to heat up and Severino on his way back from injury, their rotation doesn't look as bad as it has been all year.

The Yankees won't ask their starters to go more than 4-5 innings, anyway. They built their bullpen for the playoff run.

Ahhh, modern baseball. A big thumbs down for babying pitchers and making them so brittle. Let's get back to strengthening their arms so that they can got at least 7 innings.

...and they still get paid the same amount of money for pitching less.

I think they should pro rate pitchers contracts and be paid per inning pitch and that would keep them from having a shit fit(especially the one inning useless relievers).

I remember Mike Cuellar of the Orioles would pitch 300 innings during the regular season and then pitch winter ball.

Today's MLB pitchers would file a lawsuit if they had too do it.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

Basically teams tell starters these days to air it out at maximum velocity from the first pitch. The average starter is really only asked to get through the lineup twice, maybe three times if they are pitching great.

I first noticed it with the late Jose Fernandez, who was pitching with closer intensity from pitch one. Of course, he rarely made it past 5 or 6 innings because of pitch counts.
