Re: 2019 MLB August thread

It's a completely self-serving push by Boone and the Yankees. Good teams now loathe having to "waste" their gigantic bullpens on useless innings. Since most teams won't allow relievers to go beyond one inning these days, they also have no long relievers perfect for mop-up duty. Anyone that can pitch beyond an inning is practically made a starter.

I think MLB would face a class-action lawsuit if they really implemented a mercy rule. Someone is still paying for those tickets, even if the team is up 15-3 by the second inning.

What if the winning team had a perfect game being pitched and then the game was called because of a mercy rule?

The number one problem(among many) MLB faces is most of their games are competitive.

Having every team field a MLB team would solve that matter, however teams are allowed to tank which is baseball is quite obvious and it's destroying the game and the team fanbases.

The Tigers last night 0-BB 24-SO That's an MLB record for most strike outs without getting a walk.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

The mercy rule thing is stupid, I assume that going into each game the manager knows "this is the long guy for tonight" in case the game gets out of hand or goes deep into extra innings ... if anything it is easier for Boone in the AL than his NL counterparts, then you swap out a reliever for one in AAA the next day if need be.

I did watch the Cubs last night, beyond a much needed wind, I have to give credit to MLB for the Little League series, it is a cool event in a long season. I have thought that each team should play one home game a year elsewhere (minor league affiliate, an interesting locations, etc) ... it is such a long season, having "event" games are a nice here and there. They seem well fit for a Sunday game with Monday as a day off in the schedule.

For the players stats have always been very important, in fact a strong argument can be made that they were even more important when players only had one year contracts.
If you had a better year statistically then the year before and you were in line for a pay increase, have a year that was bellow the previous and you were in line for a pay cut.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

The A's swept the Yankees and they won the series vs the Astros at home last week or maybe they are teasing us again and they will lose in the playoffs again.

Take away the games against the Orioles and the Yankees look like a very average team with a very weak starting rotation.

Dodgers had their second-consecutive and team-record-tying 12th of the season walk-off win last night. They are now 51-16 at home. Looking forward to the weekend series against the Yankees.

I've been saying this all season - the Yankees' super-offense looks great against the AA pitching of the Orioles, but on the whole aren't a complete team on par with the likes of the Astros or Dodgers. Judge hasn't looked right ever since his injury and half of their best players have been on the DL more than actually playing.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

The Yankees and Dodgers have gone from wearing iconic uniforms to eye sore uniforms.

Even the Cubs TV play by play guy says that MLB goes overboard on these alternate uniforms and the MLB teams should wear their regular uni's at least once during the weekend.

Whoever came up with those unis should be shot.

Are they trying to copy college football?

I can't wait until we see advertisements on MLB uniforms like the NBA ones.

Last year the Player's Unis were kinda cool. This year they're a disaster.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

How is MLB going to explain how the Dodgers were allowed to call time(in the middle of a play) as a Yankee runner was between third and home and about too score the tying run when a Dodger player was injured trying to start a double play ball at second base?

I heard the discussion on talk radio when the news broke. Owner David Glass bought the franchise in 2000 for $96 million dollars. They said the value of the franchise today is almost $1 billion. Mr. Glass is 84 years old and probably wants to cash out on his investment. I just hope the potential buyer makes it a priority to keep them here in KC.

I don't blame him for selling. I might've done it last year.

Except it was the first time this year they swept them. Unless you count the two games in Mexico. But I mean if youíre proud your team is beating a team with Trout, Ohtani, an aging Pujols, a washed up Upton, an injured Simmons, and an inconsistent Calhoun, thatís cool. Shouldnít they be doing that anyway? They have beaten the Astros three times this year though. Two of the three times they scored at least 7 runs against them. What happened there? I mean theyíre hapless, right?

Iíll say it again. Itíll be fun watching your team get bounced from the playoffs.

Re: 2019 MLB August thread

you're so easily triggered. Astros are 34-16 against the Angels the last 3 seasons, a nice punching bag to stay sharp. You need to learn to roll with the punches and not get so angry. I laughed it off when the Astros were bad, you should do the same for the Angels
