Whoa look at that Netherlands gets a goal. They are sloppy but they sure as hell won't give up.

As a US fan I'm glad to see the Dutch win. I've seen enough of Sweden, and given the two fan bases involved the joint should be jumping for the final.

Nice job Oranje - they fought the entire game. Not pretty but tons of heart

Hope the Swedish player is ok that was some serious looking whiplash effect from the ball. Slow motion makes that stuff look so brutal.

US will be heavy favorites on Sunday and rightfully so but the US better not assume its in the bag (if it had been Sweden I know the US wouldn't do that).

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

I'm not a big soccer fan, but I've been watching most of the USA matches.
My main complaint is the amount of days off between matches. US played on Tuesday, then don't play again until Sunday? I really think there should only be 1 day off between matches. Maybe 2 before the final. I think that is enough rest between games.

World Cup always has the same sort of schedule.

Even in League play you're not playing more than twice per week.

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

Sweden would have been a better match. I'm hoping the vaunted Dutch offense shows up, especially Miedema. I frankly didn't know much about that Dutch team, or about her, and I was stunned when the French commentators (I'm currently in France) mentioned this:

International goals at age 22: Miedema 61, Wambach 1

On 15 June 2019 she became the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands women's national football team after scoring her 60th goal in a 3–1 win against Cameroon at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.[19] She passed the record held by Manon Melis and moved even further ahead of the men's team leading scorer, Robin van Persie.[20]

I havenít read the whole thread, so Iím sure this has been mentioned, but Iím loving the play of team USA, but in my opinion they need to stop showing up their opponent. Itís low class and they should be better than that. And man has the field gotten a lot better. England could have easily won that game if things bounced a little differently for them.

Yup, enjoy it while it lasts.

The US is on course for glory at the Women’s World Cup — but its era of dominance may be under threat.

Itís great for womenís football. Itís boring when one team dominates. Itís going to make the US better to play the toughest competition. Tactically they need to get better and not rely solely on superior athletic talent to win games.

Yep. Look at USA Women's Basketball -- the most dominant dynasty ever. And they get no love in this country.

Re-yup. Competition is good and raises everyone else's level. Heck I remember 20 years ago, except for the US, other teams could barely complete 2-3 consecutive passes.

Pretty cool to watch that one develop as she moved toward the goal then finished it.

That was a sweet one. Good for them. Well earned title. They backed up their swagger.

Hope they all decline to go the White House. Somehow, I don't think these women eat fast food anyhow.

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

Wife and daughters just got back from a viewing party. Report is none of the girls watched the game and instead went in the jacuzzi and to the park across the street. These are girls that play on multi-thousand $ a year travel teams. One girl has an older sister that plays NCAA division 1 soccer. Zero interest in this apparently.

I told them how I still vividly remember the 1999 teamís win. A defining moment in sports. Maybe the next generation is more of a ďdoingĒ generation than a ďwatchingĒ generation. Or maybe soccer is just hopeless in America. Even players of the game donít like to watch it.

Every boy I know who plays little league loves to watch baseball, and thatís boring as fuck.

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

It’s a generation that grew up playing video games, so I could see how they might prefer doing instead of watching.

It also didn’t help that everyone expected the US to win, and soccer is not a good TV sport.

My guess is that your anecdotal evidence will be disproved. The Tuesday semifinal rating was the highest weekday (non-holiday) sporting event in years. That presumably includes March Madness Thu/Fri games and MLB October playoff games.

And the rating is probably muted with bar viewership/viewing parties.

Bottom line - I think FOX is quite happy with their investment in the WWC.

Old people like us boosting the ratings doesn’t necessarily disprove his point about the younger generation, though.
