Not sure I agree. France looked better as the match progressed and they continued to get better in OT. They seem to be on the right track. The US just looks flat.

And the forecast is for brutal record setting heat all week, so this might literally be survival of the fittest.

If the US goes on to win the World Cup you might as well go ahead and award them a Women's Euro Championship as well.

They'll deserve the World Cup win if they manage to beat France/England/Germany, but the Netherlands are current European champs.

While I am naturally rooting for the US something tells me we will be sloppy and lose today. While I think France is an amazing team and most likely going to win the WC (helps being in your home country) I do not feel they have been playing all that well and can be beaten. Perhaps now is their time and they are getting it together.

I would actually be more worried about Germany and England to be honest.

Glad the US is getting more shots on goal, though they aren’t great shots. France has had a couple chances.

Rapinoe again!

France has gotten a number of chances this half.

If you told me the match was played at a neutral site or even in the US, I would have believed you from the crowd noise.

I caught a movie downtown and then went to the watch party at the Power & Light District. The game had already started and, just as I got there, goal number 1. The place is already packed and went apeshit. Probably several thousand there.

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

Glad to US won. Ref did a terrible job. The US goal that was ruled offside wasn't.. (was VAR broken? Isn't that what it's there for?).. there were at least 2 penalties that were ignored (One was on the US side when the ball hit her arm). Having said all that I think the outcome would have been a US victory anyhow. On to the next.

France was rather poor. I'm sure the weather played a role, but not the hoped for match.

That was a clinic in how to kill a game without theatrics. I don't think France completed a pass in the US half in extra time (5 min).

Re: FIFA Women's World Cup 2019 (France).

Well I watched this in France so people were disappointed. The US are very opportunistic, and France had a few opportunities they coudn't put away. But as I said before, the gap between those top European teams and the US is closing fast, and teams like the Netherlands, Spain, Italy are also on the rise.

GER was awful. Nothing in the 2nd half.

SWE was 4-1 on the 3-way bet....props if you had it.

Wow Rapinoe not starting today, that is a shocker.

No mention yet as to why but a lot are saying coach decision, if so once again Ellis making a huge bonehead move. Not a fan of Rapinoe but the US needs her to win. Press will only give you one thing Rapinoe doesn't have ... PACE and that is it.

Just for fun, thought Id watch the game in one of the most popular soccer bars in the city. My ears are still ringing from that first goal.

Her replacement opens the scoring.

Nice header by Press and horrible defending by England.
