2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
I might be jumping the gun by a few hours here, but will be busy later tonight.
Farewell to Dwayne Wade and Dirk Nowitzki. Two true class acts who will be sorely missed. See you both in the Hall of Fame in 5 years! Luke Walton, you will be....less missed. Jeannie Buss has now cut ties, has withdrawn her vocal support and is letting Rob & Magic make the final decision on his coaching future with the Lakers. Not much question about what happens next besides does the ax fall tonight or tomorrow? |

Wow, just stunning. Wonder what the Hell happens now. Who recruits a Max player this Summer with no coach and no Front Office.

Yeah Woj, it ain't great.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Wow, that was unexpected. Jeanie trusted one of the greatest players in team history to turn her franchise around and he bails after 2 years on the job?
I wonder if not making the playoffs and the whole Anthony Davis debacle really just blew up in his face and he couldn't deal with the backlash. |
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Jeanie needs to hire an experienced NBA Executive who knows his shit. Forget hiring former Lakers. Magic quitting and Scott's disastrous run are prime examples.
I'm not sure Jerry West is the answer either even though he did tremendous things as Lakers GM. He's 80 years old. |
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
For once, the Suns front office doesn't seem as bad!

Official Team statement for Magic quitting:
Lakers Statement on Earvin "Magic" JohnsonPosted: Apr 09, 2019 LOS ANGELES – There is no greater Los Angeles Laker than Earvin Johnson. We are deeply grateful to Magic for all that he has done for our franchise – as a player, an ambassador and an executive.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
we will work in a measured and methodical fashion to make the right moves for the future of our organization. |
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
I think Phil Jackson would do the job for a cool 10 million a year. I heard he is available.
|
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Jeanie Buss just tweeted this:
I'm sure she will find the right person. This has to be killing her that this is the 6th straight season with no playoffs. |
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
That's a pretty provocative profile pic that she has there.
|
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
She posed in Playboy in the mid 1990s. That's where that photo is from. Big deal. From what I recall no one made any big deal of it. Jeanie was and is still a very beautiful woman.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
LOL, this has to be the worst (but entertaining for non-Laker fans) LA season in years.
|
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Of course the Lakers would find a way to stay in the news... ;)
On the one hand, I'm pretty sure Magic's presence was at least part of the reason Lebron came to the Lakers, so in that aspect, he succeeded. Everything else was a disaster but at least he seemingly realized he's not fit for the job and didn't have to be let go, which would have been even more disastrous PR-wise for the Lakers than this mess. On the other hand, they'll have reached rock bottom if Lebron all of a sudden wants out. |
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
I think the Lakers need to stop beating around the bush and just make Lebron the GM already. I mean he comes with 4 years experience in Cleveland.
|
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Yeah, the timing stinks but maybe it's a blessing in disguise that Magic resigned because he wasn't up to the job and was almost impossible to fire.
No way LeBron asks out. He's all about his image and legacy at this point and as much of a hit he took this season with the AD trade stuff, that would be a thousand times worse. |

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
Why not Phil and Kobe together as the two-headed Mamba?
|
Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread
They have a GM already, do they really need to replace Magic? |
