Per Woj, Cleveland hiring Michigan's John Bellein as their next head coach. Interesting.

I don't understand this hire at all... Beilein is no spring chicken, nor is he very healthy... he does, however, get the most out of his players (at a college level anyways). I respect him very much for that... and super bummed that UM needs to find a new head coach.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

They tried to hire Tom Izzo years ago before LeBron bolted for Miami, so clearly Dan Gilbert has a thing for Michigan college basketball coaches.

Yeah, he's got a lot of development in Detroit and the surrounding areas. I always hoped he'd buy the Tigers but I don't think the Illitch's will sell. Oddly, he did also steal the Piston's "hype man"... the guy who introduces the team and gets the crowd fired up. So odd.

The Draft Lottery is tonight. Will the Knicks get it?

I bet Cleveland gets it again.
I'm guessing the Knicks get the 3rd pick.

If it's fixed, the Knicks will get it. Kyrie/KD/Zion or AD would put them back on the map. Shades of the very first lottery.

You can bet that the Knicks will get it. Right now there is no small market team that the NBA owes a debt to, so they are clear to give it to one of the big boys. They had to repay the Saints owner for buying the Pelicans (when nobody wanted the team), so they got Anthony Davis. Cleveland got a few #1 overall picks because of Lebron bolting to Miami and Dan Gilbert bitching to Stern about it. I remember Dikembee Mutuombo tweeted an hour before the 2016 lottery that he was told that his former team the Sixers would get the #1 overall pick that night, as the conspiracy people seized on that.

OK, back to looking at who was the 2nd gunman in the grassy knolls on the Zapruder Tape........

I agree, it will be in the NBA's best interest for the Knicks to get the first pick. Zion, plus two free agents (Maybe KD &Irving) will be ratings gold for the league.

As a Knicks fan, I have already accepted that we will get the #5 pick. The Cam Reddish Era starts tonight!

Wow, this'll be interesting. The Knicks, Lakers, Grizzlies, and Pelicans...didn't see the latter three teams moving up like that...

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Oh Shit, Zion to New Orleans.

AD is so gone. I can’t see them keeping AD if they keep the pick.

But that would be a powerhouse front line.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Oh god. What do they do with Davis now??? He still want out? Or do they just keep him and try and go for it next year...? They still have him signed for another year so it's not like they HAVE to trade him...But he might be disgruntled...

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

So half the opinion is AD is like “just playin” and the other half is “now I really want a trade.”

In theory, assuming he still wants to go, doesn’t this make it easier for them to deal him?

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

If the Pelicans want to rebuild then they can take the Knicks 3rd pick and assets for Davis or the Lakers 4th pick and assets. Not sure he wants to stay in New Orleans. Don't think Zion does either.

The Knicks have the better pick but what "assets" do they have that anyone wants? It's even risky to get their future picks because of the Kyrie/KD rumors which would render them useless.

This is who they have signed next year:

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

The Pelicans were supposed to be looking at Knox. You could offer him and the 3rd pick for Davis. I still think the Knicks sign Durant and Kyrie so the rest of this may not even matter. I would keep Knox and the rest of the youngsters, along with their own future picks, and sign a few veterans to help out.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

People are sleeping on the Pelicans. Even if Davis does end up leaving they're still going to get multiple good players in a trade to pair with Zion.
