This is going to end very ugly. Besides Kidd and Howard, who I hope and pray either one doesn't get the job, who is left out there?

It's a year too late, but Dwayne Casey would have been the PERFECT fit for the Lakers where they're at right now.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

I only wish this were a joke tweet:

Lakers are going to end up with Rambis (Linda) at GM and Jason Kidd as coach, watch.

It's interesting to me that all the potential AD suitors have pretty much self imploded:
Lakers: needs no explanation
Celtics: disappointing season, Kyrie is probably leaving, Tatum's stock is down
Knicks: still need the number 1 pick, Durant may be hurt, Kyrie's stock is way down even if they get him.

Why not throw Derek Fisher in the mix?

Because he already has a job. He was hired as the coach of the LA Sparks.

I mean, what's a little more trash on the dumpster fire? Throw in Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis and Phil too.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Vogel honestly wouldn’t be a bad pick. He was a good coach with the Pacers and apparently Paul George likes him. He also went to the ECF. And from what I recall his Pacer teams were in the top 10 in defense.

He got canned because of the nature of the business and didn’t survive his 2 years in Orlando because they simply didn’t have the talent. Now he would have LeBron James and maybe another credible star.

Vogel is a good coach.

But goddam, the Lakers are a dumpster fire right now. And while I am still stinging from how disappointing this season was for my Celtics, that dumpster fire does provide me with a wee bit of warmth.

It's so weird - for years we Lakers fans have always been told "The problems with the Lakers are because Jeanie is just running the business side and letting her brother run the basketball side of the operation. That's what her dad wanted". Nobody ever thought to ponder "What if Jeanie isn't any good at the job either?". Strangely, that never even entered our mind.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Apparently 6 years with no playoffs is leaving many Lakers fans frustrated as hell.

I wouldn't go out of my way to do something like this, but I don't blame the hardcore fans for being pissed. 6 years of no playoffs and losing sucks and Laker tickets are really really expensive. They are still charging like they're a championship team.

That's what I've always understand about Jeanie Buss. While she's a lovely lady and many like her, she's not really knowledgeable about the basketball side. She handles the business end and financials and that's left a bad taste in some Lakers fans thinking she doesn't care and is a hands off owner. That's why she trusted Magic and Rob to run that side and now it appears it's Rob and Rambis.

So Kurt doesn’t have an official role? He’s just married to the shadow owner and he knows where the bodies are buried?

(He grew up a few blocks from my parents’ house, so he’s a bit of a local legend.)

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

When they ousted Jim, Ramona Shelburne did an extensive article about Jeannie (I respect Ramona but it was basically a Jeannie sanctioned fluff piece to present her side) and in that it revealed how close she and Rambis's wife were.

Lemme find it...

Lakers have turned into Knicks West once Jerry Buss died

Bringing in a bunch of people to coaching and front office jobs cause they are Ex Lakers or making Kobe'e agent a GM because Kobe is a God in LA is all busch league stuff.

Agreed, what a douche. Shame on ESPN for giving shitty, isolated fans like that a national platform.

He's not wrong about the front office being incompetent though.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Let him spend a day or two outside MSG and maybe he would have a real beef. You can't complain when your team has won as many titles as the Lakers have. He just sounds like a whiner that feels the world owes him something.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Frank Vogel agrees to deal to become Lakers head coach.

Finally. And I think this is not a bad pick.

and apparently Jason Kidd will be his top assistant

People disliked the idea of Kidd becoming a head coach because of his mediocrity as the Nets and Bucks coach, but I don't mind him as an Assistant. He was a good PG back in his day and can help develop Lonzo.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

Of course there will be some who will hate the Vogel hire because they've never heard of him. Since he coached a small market team and most in LA don't or probably have never paid 1 second of attention to the Pacers. But, he was very successful with them.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

If people have a problem with Frank Vogel it would be because his record in his last stop in Orlando was awful, whether he was at fault or not. That and the fact that he was at best the third choice and apparently the only one willing to include Jason Kidd on his staff. Kidd has a history of undermining head coaches as an assistant coach and undermining GMs as head coach. He also has a DWI as a coach and an arrest for domestic violence as a player That's not even mentioning that the Bucks became a much better team once he was fired and replaced. Makes you wonder why the Rambii are so enamored with him.

Re: 2019 NBA Off-Season Thread

I have been wondering the same thing. Why was the Lakers front office so head strong about Kidd being an assistant coach there? I have heard some of the same rumors about him. That he tries to get players loyal to him, and not the Head Coach. He could undermine what is already a very fragile situation in LA.
