Rules:

2. Bonus points: Pick the # of games each first round series will last (points apply only if you picked the correct series winner) (3pts for each correct pick)
3. Tie breaker: Pick the total # of goals in the Stanley Cup finals.

Entry must be submitted no later than 6:59 p.m. ET on April 10, 2019.

Please use your DVDTalk handle as your bracket name (up at the top) so we can know who's who. Good luck!
You guys really messed-up by not joining the pool. Only two of us (me and Grip) made it in, and we both made HORRID picks. The first round isn't even over, and we've both lost three of our four finalists already. He had Winnipeg playing Columbus in the Finals, I had St Louis playing Tampa. Lol.

You could've flipped coins for each matchup and likely be winning.

Never been a fan of end seats, but for a playoff game just being in the building is enough. For goals at the other end you literally have to rely on the red light or crowd reaction, but you probably saw the winner for this game all too well.

Glad we have two game 7s tomorrow night. This is gonna be good! (no racist gif needed)

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Well, we got the 2nd round opponent we wanted. Not that with all of the upsets and post-season parity there's a "better" or "worse" pairing to root for.... but by getting Dallas instead of Nashville the Blues get home ice advantage..... And true, that really doesn't mean much as far as increasing or decreasing the chance of winning. It's more about getting more of your fans in to see games.

Still, I was hoping Nashville would win Game 6 (in triple OT) to force both teams to play a Game 7 (again in triple OT) while the Blues rested up and healed. Having a week off is better than having a couple of nights off, and it would've been gloria(ous) to let the Stars and Preds beat each other silly and force the winner to tunraround to play a rested St Louis team on Friday.

Still - our series will likely start before the Colorado-Sharknights series starts. If we can win it and not have to play 7 we might get another advantageous break before the WCF.

Was hoping the Predators would win last night to force another game, but 3 game 7s is still pretty good.

There's going to be an earthquake in San Jose just from the crowd noise.

Unfortunately for Vegas, yes. The rule doesn't really leave any wiggle room:
(b) A major plus a game misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who injures an opponent as a result of cross-checking.

It was obviously cross-checking and the player got injured.

Can't remember the last time I was this entertained by a game in which I had zero rooting interest. Decker, I can't imagine your emotional rollercoaster.

I picture the entire Golden Knights roster taking turns punching Eakins in the face in the dressing room...

I'm watching the local broadcast (the National one is blacked out in Vegas). They do NOT agree that the penalty was correct and state it should have been a 2 min cross checking penalty.

The rule wording I posted is USA Hockey rules, not NHL rules, so I can see their point. The NHL rule reads like this:
59.3
Major Penalty
- A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee
based on the severity of the contact, shall be imposed on a player
who “cross checks” an opponent (see 59.5).
59.4
Match Penalty
– The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match
penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately
injured his opponent by cross-checking.
I think the injury probably tipped the scales when it came to the referee's discretion.

But the injury was incidental to the cross check, not a direct result of it. It’s Game 7. The refs shouldn’t decide the series.
