First period of the Knights/Sharks game is crazy. Vegas gets 3 goals in the first 6 minutes and chase Martin Jones then the Sharks score 3 in the last 3 minutes to tie it up.

I did not expect Columbus and the Isles to be up 2-0 in their series.

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Thankfully, the Golden Knights were able to put their 3 minutes of incompetence behind them and shut out the Sharks in the Second and Third periods, taking Game Two 5-3. Getting closer to a Game 6 for me.

Beautiful assist from Reilly Smith and Shorthanded goal from William Karlsson

I just read on The Athletic that the Golden Knights are adding the, far and away, best player in the KHL (and reigning MVP of the leage) Nikita Gusev to the team this weekend and he could play tomorrow night. That seems crazy to me, but we need some help with our Third line. If he can give the team some offensive production there with Tuch and Eakin, this team will have no glaringly obvious weakness.

Not that surprised about the Isles. If they win, it will be shame that they have to play in Brooklyn.

But the Jackets...wow. But don't forget, there were in this same position last year.

Mrazek has been awesome. Great game. Caps couldn't close. Now OT.

And it's over! Tough break for Carolina, but nice finish, Caps!

Such an evenly played series.

Kucherov ended up getting suspended for 1 game for his hit. Kadri likely will get suspended for his cross check.

Nice to see some OT games today. Only wish they lasted a little longer.

So nice to see a crowd that respectfully stands and sings the anthems of BOTH nations without attempting to disrepectfully yell-down the singer.

Yup, but their 2-0 start was a pair of tight OT wins. They dominated the Lightning in Game 2 on Friday... same series standings, but that's the only similarity between now and then. Tampa is in trouble.

Jackets win 3-1. Tampa is running out of losses. Since trailing 3-0 in Game 1, Columbus has outscored the Lightning 12-2.

Binnington looking mortal tonight.

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

For the casual hockey fan, after three games the lower seeds lead in 5 of the 8 series:

WC/Columbus 3-0 A1/Tampa Bay
A3/Toronto 2-1 A2/Boston
M1/Washington 2-1 WC/Carolina
M2/NY Islanders 3-0 M3/Pittsburgh
-
C1/Nashville 2-1 WC/Dallas
C3/St Louis 2-1 C2/Winnipeg
WC/Colorado 2-1 P1/Calgary
P3/Vegas 2-1 P2/San Jose

Tonight (times ET)
7pm Tampa Bay (0) at Columbus (3) [CNBC, SN360]
7:30p NY Islanders (3) at Pittsburgh (0) [NBCSN, CBC]
9:30p Winnipeg (1) at St Louis (2) [CNBC, SN]
10:30p San Jose (1) at Vegas (2) [NBCSN, SN360]

Sad that this group goes out with such a whimper. I doubt the core remains next season.

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Is the Blue Jackets sweeping the Lightning the biggest Playoff series upset in US sports? It seems really unlikely— I think that The Athletic had them at nearly 30% chance of winning the Cup before his series started.

One of the great things about the NHL playoffs is that almost any team can win. But man, the way the Lightning went out is hard to fathom.

First President's Trophy winner to get swept in the first round, right?

Knights up 3-0 after two periods. Unbelievable production from the newly formed “Second” line. Pacioretty/Stastney/Stone have a combined 27 points so far this series. It won’t happen, but George McPhee should probably win Executive of the Year again this year.

Great game by Binnington. Too bad we couldn't keep it out of our end in the latter stages of the game.

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Knights do a full-on Beat-Down of the Sharks 5-0 and now lead the Series 3-1. Sharks are totally imploding with two ejections and giving up 9 power plays. I kind of have to root for the Sharks to win Game 5 so I can go to Game 6 with my fantastic seats, but that doesn’t look promising right now.
