Congrats! Word of advice : buy merch, expensive merch. When the Colts won in 2006 I splurged on a $250 leather and wool varsity jacket. I still get compliments on it and in Indy I get stopped in the streets. Totally worth it and a great souvenir.

The Blues went north to Winnipeg
The Blues went south to Dallas
The Blues went west to San Jose
The Blues went east to Boston

Tonight, the Blues are heading home. To the Heartland of Hockey.

With Stanley.

Damn.

Absolutely love it.

I'm a Kings fan, but moreso, I'm a HOCKEY fan. I love this game!

Gosh, I dunno. I'm pretty tight with my cash. Won't consider spending more than $1200 for a playoff ticket, why would I spend one-fifth of that for a permanent keepsake?

j/k

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

After the Colts won the Super Bowl, they toured Indiana with the Lombardi Trophy. They brought it here to Bloomington and I took my kid. He wanted to touch it, so I let him.

But I refused. That trophy hadn't been won by my team, I didn't deserve to touch it. No way was I going to do that.

I hope the Blues tour with Stanley or even have it on display for a day so the fans can get close and personal with it. I feel it's okay now.

Conrgats, shea! Forgot this was your team. Awesome to see that team come all the way back from last place to beat the Sharks, then beat Boston and take home a long-awaited Cup. Enjoy.

Congratulations and all, but calling St. Louis the "Heartland of Hockey"
It's actually where 10 or 11 of the Blues players are from.

At one time I was an avid Hockey fan and the Blues were my favorite team, mainly because of Hull, so I am so happy they finally won.

Given the significant number of NHL draft picks from the St. Louis area in the last several years, it doesn't seem like an unreasonable label (for example, in 2016, five of the first round picks were from St. Louis). I'm not sure there's another "heartland" city in which youth hockey thrives as much as in St. Louis and generates as many current top prospects.

? Of their listed roster, only 3 are American, and only Pat Maroon is from St. Louis.

19 are from Canada! Don Cherry must be loving this!

Nothing compared to the GTHA. It's really not even close.

Yea, I was referring to the fact that about 10/11 players on the Blues are specifically from the GTHA.

Ah, gotcha. You were referring to 'where the 10/11 players are from (I.e. the GTA)' as the Heartland. I misunderstood you to mean 10/11 were from what kenbuzz was referring to as the Heartland.

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

Changing a Head Coach midseason IS a recipe to win the Cup in this current era. I believe the Pens won twice after replacing their coach midseason, the Blues won last night. My Flyers hired Laviolette in December in 2009, and then went to the Finals that next spring. I'm sure there are more examples but it really shows that a short-term stimulus to team does work, more than other sports.

Lol. I wasn't attempting to stir up "Heartland" controversy, I was simply referring to this from the 2017 Winter Classic:

And this St Louis tournament:

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

BTW - While I would've been happier if the Blues had won the cup in St Louis, I'm old school and first became addicted to NHL hockey back when home teams wore white jerseys. I understand completely why the league swapped jersey colors - to sell merchandise - but I still see the dark jerseys as the "unnatural" ones.

Watching the Blues lift the cup wearing their white jerseys seemed just exactly right to me.

Once again the Sharks lose to the team that wins it all

Re: 2019 NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Thread

So I guess it's the Leafs turn to win now.

Hell, not even a finals appearance in the expansion era - so even losing the finals would be a huge accomplishment.

I think we're just quibbling over semantics then. When I said "heartland" city I was referring to cities in the heartland of the U.S. (lower midwest). I would think it's obvious that Canada and specifically the GTHA churn out more pro hockey players than any region of the U.S.
